Apart from Kounde, Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt and Torino’s Gleison Bremer are other defenders linked with Stamford Bridge recently.

But obviously Chelsea have not agreed to these demands. Moreover, Rudiger’s main problem at Stamford Bridge is his wages. He’s currently on a £130,000 per week and wants to increase it dramatically.

With several other clubs interested in the German international, including heavyweights Real Madrid CF and FC Bayern Munich, it remains to be seen if Chelsea can keep hold of their star performer.

Antonio Rudiger Wants £46m Contract

Chelsea News: Star defender Antonio Rudiger has asked for an increase in his pay before signing a contract extension to remain at Chelsea.

The report from Marca (via Football.London) claims that Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has renewed his desire for a lucrative salary package to continue his contract with Chelsea beyond this summer.

Antonio Rudiger has been a key member of Chelsea’s defensive line over the last several seasons. He continues to be so. In addition to being a reliable defender at the back, the German has also scored some crucial goals for his team this season. Furthermore, he has successfully served as Chelsea’s lone senior center-back who has been available for selection throughout the course of the campaign.

Last season, his contribution to our UEFA Champions League victory proved crucial. Despite having had an inauspicious start to his career in West London, the former AS Roma defender is now widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the English Premier League.

The fact that Rudiger is a vital asset for the squad is undeniable. But is he really worth £400,000 per week? At the end of the day, it is the stated salary package he requested earlier in the season. These are undoubtedly extravagant salaries for a defender who will be 29 years old in March, if that is the case.

Chelsea News: What is the future for Rudiger?

Rudiger is thought to have made a fresh demand and is presently demanding a contract worth £46million – £180,000 per week if the Blues board agrees to a five-year term, and £220,000 per week if the board agrees to a four-year deal.

The German international has unquestionably progressed to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Furthermore, even though he is in the midst of a contract dispute, his devotion to Chelsea’s squad has not waned.

He has produced many match-winning performances for Chelsea this season and continues to give all he has on the field for the team.

Identifying a qualified successor for Rudiger would be difficult if the board decides to sell Rudiger and search for alternatives.

Chelsea presently has Trevoh Chalobah rising through the ranks. But with Thiago Silva growing older and the Blues losing Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi this summer, moving Rudiger would almost probably necessitate the acquisition of a new right defender.

As a result, the board would be prudent to consider Rudiger’s requests. Chelsea is one of the best teams in Europe. They have the financial wherewithal to offload a few players to make room on their books for the German pay contract. It is something Chelsea will have to wait and see, but it is unquestionably a realistic alternative.

It would be a huge boost for the team if he could commit to a new contract. Even though central defenders keep their defensive experience and know-how into their early 30s, it is unlikely that Chelsea would award a new contract to a defender whose career is on the decline in any meaning of the term.
