The 9 players Barcelona could welcome back for Granada/Ferran Torres latest

Revealed: The 9 players Barcelona could welcome back for Granada/Ferran Torres latest

Spanish giants FC Barcelona could welcome as many as nine players back to the first-team fold when they travel to face Granada this weekend, it has been confirmed.

Barca march on amid crisis

The subject of personnel woes has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines when it comes to ongoings at the Camp Nou of late.

This comes as Xavi Hernandez has been forced to face up to a frankly remarkable stretch of bad luck.

Heading into the club’s trip to Mallorca at the weekend, owing to a combination of injury and a major Covid-19 outbreak at the club, Barca were unable to call on Memphis Depay, Pedri, Gavi, Ansu Fati, Sergino Dest, Martin Braithwaite and many, many more.

In turn, it proved all the more impressive when they ultimately departed Son Moix on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline.

The Blaugrana emerged triumphant once more on Wednesday, too, keeping their Copa del Rey hopes alive courtesy of a 2-1 downing of minnows Linares Deportivo.

Pedri & more to return?

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then the endeavours of Xavi’s troops in the face of adversity looks set to see them rewarded this weekend.

Turning attentions back towards La Liga, Barcelona will make the trip to Los Carmenes on Saturday evening, for a showdown with Granada.

And, according to journalist Javi Miguel of Diario AS, the Catalans could be in line to welcome back as many as nine players back to the first-team fold for the clash.

Both Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati are understood to be closing on injury comebacks, whilst hope remains that all of Pedri, Gavi and Abde will return negative tests for Covid-19 before the weekend.

In addition, the trio of Luuk de Jong, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet look primed to be in contention, after sitting out proceedings at Linares last night.

Last up, should a new home be found for Philippe Coutinho in the meantime, Ferran Torres could be registered and afforded his Barca debut, in the case that he too enjoys a full recovery from Covid-19.

Watford on the verge of naming Roy Hodgson as their new head coach

Roy Hodgson is on the verge of coming out of retirement and taking charge of Watford, according to reports.

The 74 year old retired from management at the end of last season, when his reign at Crystal Palace came to an end, but has seemingly been enticed back into action following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.

As per the Athletic, the deal will see him take charge of Watford until the end of the season, while Ray Lewington will once again be his assistant coach. With experience in the Premier League and experience working with Watford’s notoriously short-fused owners, Hodgson could well prove to be the miracle that hornets fans have been praying for.

What’s the situation at the bottom?

Watford currently sit in the relagation zone, and their 3-0 defeat to direct rivals Norwich have seen them slip down to 19th place. Burnley, the side below them, have two games in hand too and trail by just two points.

Additionally, both Leeds and Everton (15th and 16th respectively) have been performing well below their usual level thus far, and will surely be expecting significant upturns in form over the last 17 games of the campaign.

Newcastle are spending big to try and avoid relegation too, but it seems likely that should they survive, Watford would be the victims and would be spending next season in the Championship.

While it by no means an impossible job for Hodgson, it is perhaps one of the hardest of his long and illustrious career.

Tottenham ready to crash Newcastle’s move for Diego Carlos with midfielder offered in exchange

Tottenham are ready to crash Newcastle’s attempts to sign Diego Carlos in the last week of the window, according to

footballinsider247.com/tottenham-carlos-swap-sevilla-lo-celso/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>footyinsider

.

Newcastle have been chasing a deal for Diego Carlos all January, and have seen two bids rejected for the Brazilian by Sevilla already.

Now, however, Tottenham might be about to provide fresh competition. It was reported last week that a London club had matched the Magpies’ bid for the 28 year old defender,

Now, another bid is thought to be forthcoming.

Tottenham to steal Carlos?

A centre-back is undoubtedly a priority for Tottenham and Antonio Conte, with the Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga failing to impress thus far in the Italian’s back three.

Now, the Lilywhites have reportedly turned their attentions to Carlos, and are putting together a package that would see Argentine midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso head the other way as well as a fee paid.

Lo Celso was left out of the Tottenham squad for the trip to Stamford Bridge, despite being fully fit, and is free to leave in the last week of the window should a suitable offer come in. However, this seems unlikely to match the 43 million pounds that Spurs splashed out on him in 2020, and so the midfielder may find himself instead being used as a bargaining chip in other deals.

Should Tottenham be able to land Carlos for Lo Celso and cash, it would surely be considered a good deal.

Arsenal offered Real Madrid forward on loan as Serie A giants bid for Vlahovic

Arsenal offered Real Madrid forward on loan as Serie A giants bid for Vlahovic

Arsenal have been offered the opportunity to take Real Madrid striker Luca Jovic on loan, according to multiple sources.

The Gunners have been chasing a deal for Dusan Vlahovic for much of January, but always knew that convincing the player to join the club would be tough, and so it has proved.

Now, it seems as though Italian giants Juventus have entered the race for the Fiorentina striker, and as per the reliable Romeo Agresti of Goal.com, the Old Lady will be making a bid for Vlahovic imminently.

As a result, Arsenal have had to turn their attentions elsewhere, and one of those options is the possibility of taking Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic on loan for the remainder of the season.

It would be the third successive season that the Gunners have taken a Los Blancos fringe option on a temporary deal, with both Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard having trodden the same path.

Does a move for Jovic make sense?

Mikel Arteta and co. are in desperate need of a striker, especially if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to be frozen out.

And while Jovic has been underwhelming in the Spanish capital, he impressed while at Frankfurt, netting 27 goals in 48 outings in the 2018/19 season, which in turn forced Real Madrid to splash out 57 million pounds on what they thought was the next big thing.

Now, however, Jovic has been firmly behind Benzema in the pecking order, and has netted just once in 18 La Liga appearances this campaign (although these appearances only amount to 240 minutes).

A move away to rekindle his career makes sense then, especially with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland rumoured to be joining Los Blancos in the summer. For Arsenal, it would be a low-cost option should they continue to fail landing their top targets, meaning that it could be an option we won’t see explored until late in the window.

However, it wouldn’t be the worst idea.
