Players are scared to wear the jersey claims former Premier League striker

Manchester United News: Manchester’s United form in recent years has made sure of one thing, other teams are not afraid of playing them now. However, the former Premier League striker Darren Bent made a very interesting comment recently.

The former Aston Villa man believes the United players are “scared” to wear the club’s jersey. The striker made the comments after Manchester United lost at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Watching United play is like watching a horror story these days. The Reds are terrible to watch recently and the game against Wolves was no different. Bruno Lage’s players did their best and totally dominated United at their home turf.

This was the first at Old Trafford for Wolverhampton in 42 years. The winning goal came in from their Portuguese star midfielder, Joao Moutinho, in the final ten minutes.

The loss was United’s fourth home defeat of the season and they have just reached the halfway stage. The display was so poor from the record English Champions that they managed just two shots on Jose Sa’s goal. United’s best chance arrived just after the hour mark when Bruno Fernandes hit the goal post after being substituted into the game.

This performance was very similar to how they performed against Norwich and Newcastle. However, the difference here was the quality of Wolves. United did manage a comprehensive win last win against Burnley but was nowhere near the same level against Bruno Lage’s men.

What did Darren Bent have to say?

Bent was talking to talkSPORT when he said: “When teams used to play Manchester United in their prime, the players in the tunnel used to scare others. United players were so proud to wear the jersey. They wanted to carry the burden of the biggest club in the world while playing.

However, when you look at his United team, the players look scared to even wear the jersey. When the manager makes the substation, they won’t even go off the pitch quickly.”

He further added: “Marcus Rashford is a shadow of himself. He is thinking about everything apart from football. And honestly saying I have no idea where the entire team is headed at this point in time.”

He added: “I look at some of the players’ body language and you’ve got some of the players looking at other players thinking ‘it doesn’t matter how he plays; he’s always going to play. It doesn’t matter how I play; I’m going to be sacrificed’.

Ronaldo has been made captain, and it doesn’t matter how he plays; he’s always going to play. The likes of [Mason] Greenwood, who is giving absolutely everything, and Jadon Sancho, who is trying to rediscover his form, just not getting a fair crack at it.”

Jaap Stam warns Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United News: Manchester United is the most talked about club in the world. The Manchester giants are always in the news for a good or a bad reason. This time their former player Jaap Stam has come with a warning for the interim manager.

The former Netherlands international has warned Ralf Rangnick that it’s not going to be easy to win the trust of the Old Trafford old guard.

Stam is a legend at the club. The Dutch defender won the Champions League and three Premier League titles during his three seasons working under Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, he believes the German will have to tackle the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Paul Pogba differently. They might have to modify certain tactics that have served them so well over the years.

Manchester United News: What did Stam say?

Manchester United News: Jaap Stam warns Ralf Rangnick.

Stam said: “Rangnick has been with young players before. Now, he is dealing with the likes of Ronaldo, Pogba, Fernandes, and Cavani.”

“These United players require a whole different way of man-management.”

“The job of convincing them about the philosophy is a tough task. The results will come only if they put that into practice on the pitch.

“The caliber of the players is very high. They might look at the manager in a different way and always expect more. They are always observing how you handle them and what you want from them on the pitch. Also, they are not kids.”

The 49-year-old further added that: the young players from outside fail in the Premier League because they find it very difficult to match the intensity. Stam last managed the MLS franchise, FC Cincinnati last summer.

“English Premier League is tough. You will have to perform your 100% in eight out of 10 games. When you compare it to Dutch football, a good player only needs to give that 100 percent in two out of ten games.

“The young players who arrive in the League are struggling with physicality. They are not up to the mark with pace either as they have to put in performances every week.”

Manchester United News: Stam’s record as a manager?

Stam started his managerial career in 2009. He became an assistant coach for PEC Zwolle, and following his stint with Zwolle, Stam signed a three-year contract with Ajax in 2013 as an assistant coach.

Reading:

After his Ajax adventure ended, Stam took the Reading job in the championship. On 13 June 2016, Stam was appointed as manager of English Championship club Reading on an initial two-year contract. However, after a successful first season, in 2018 Reading announced that Stam had left the club with immediate effect.

The former Milan man went to PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord, but the stints didn’t work out as planned.

FC Cincinnati:

Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati announced that Stam will be their new manager in 2020. However, he was dismissed on 27 September 2021, with Cincinnati second-from-bottom in the Eastern Conference having won four of 25 games.

Manchester United News: Anthony Elanga’s stocks are rising very quickly within the Manchester United squad. The Swedish U-21 international has impressed United’s boss, Ralf Rangnick, with his gameplay.

The academy product has grabbed his opportunity with both hands with the first team. The fans are loving the youngster’s attitude on and off the pitch.

According to the Daily Mail, Rangnick said: “I must say from the very first day from my first training session, he showed up.”

“I had heard his name before and I was in my hotel room watching videos of him on YouTube, I thought this boy was really good. He was almost on his way out on loan. I told him: ‘You will not go out on loan; you will stay here.’ He has developed in training.”

Manchester United News: What does the report say?

Manchester United News: Rangnick impressed by Elanga.

According to The Athletic, Rangnick absolutely loves Elanga. The interim manager feels that the young Swedish star can gel with all the attackers in the squad without any problem.

It’s been said that the youngster is very attentive in training and never misses out on anything. This ability has caught the eye of the 63-year-old German.

The report further states that the former RB Leipzig manager is very confident about the output he will get from Elanga. Rangnick feels that the player studied videos of other top players and did extra work after training, unlike other players.

Rangnick likes the players he can trust. However, the coaching staff is worried about the experience of the youngster in comparison to his rivals for the same position. He is still a raw talent, and his technique will improve with more game time.

Elanga’s idol is Rashford, whose place in the team is taken by him now. The Englishman remains one of the star players but has been going through a tough season. Manchester United fans and coaches will be hoping that the old regain his best form soon.

Elanga impressing players?

The Swedish u 21 has impressed fellow teammates with his hard work in the last few months. The youngster has put on a lot of weight to make himself stronger and more ready at the Premier League level.

Bruno Fernandes is exceptionally intrigued with his development and impressive skill. The Portuguese midfielder has been a huge admirer of the youngster and is loving the growth shown by the son of former Cameroon international, Joseph Elanga.

Players in the squad feel that he got each quality that it takes to be a world-class United player. They have all the right reasons to believe that and looks like the manager agrees with them.

Rangnick has clearly mentioned that the loan move is out of the question. This means that the youngster will be getting more opportunities to impress the watchers.

Bruno Fernandes is finally let loose in his best position at Man United – Man United News And Transfer News

Bruno Fernandes will continue to play in midfield for Manchester United after two impressive performances in a 4-3-3 system.

Although historically a number eight – he made his name for Sporting Lisbon in that position and also regularly plays there for Portugal – United’s previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doggedly played the Portuguese star in the number 10 position without exception.

And whilst Fernandes’ goals and assists record for United appeared to vindicate that decision, current manager Ralf Rangnick is now convinced that he can achieve as much, if not more, from deeper.

‘I think most of the top teams in Europe and also in England play in a 4-3-3,’ Rangnick said after United’s 3-1 victory over Brentford on Wednesday.

‘I think for him, it’s better than being pinned to a no.10 position because he can then make himself available in different areas of the pitch, not only in the centre.

‘For me, he’s not a wing player, but I think in this position, he can find the spaces himself, he can sniff the moments in which areas we have to play the ball for him, and this position as an eight is almost perfect for him.’

The change has been a long time coming. Shortly after Fernandes joined United, former Sporting boss Carlos Carvalhal told Sky Sports (via Goal.com):

‘He is not a number 10, he is a midfielder but he has developed that ability to break the line of the defence to score goals.

‘He shoots, he assists, the passes and the free-kicks. But he is not a 10, he is an eight. He is a box-to-box player who understands very well the game. He doesn’t just play. He understands everything that happens around him.’

Four goal involvements in two games suggest that Carvalhal was right all along. Taking up those deeper positions also seems to have brought balance to the United team, bridging the gap between midfield and attack that was a problem throughout the course of Solskjaer’s tenure.

Without a world-class specialist holding midfielder, Scott McTominay and Fred have usually been employed in a two-man midfield, but neither have the passing vision or ability to make frequent timed runs into the box that lead to goalscoring opportunities. By pushing Bruno back alongside them, he can get on the ball early and provide that missing link.

Fernandes himself has always said he does not have a preferred position, but the number eight tattooed on his arm suggests otherwise. He now finally has a chance to fulfill that role at Manchester United.

Ralf Rangnick may just have unleashed a monster.
