Match Preview

The Parisians are in good form ahead of the game. They were disappointed after their exit from the domestic cup by Nice. However, their emphatic victory over Lille has got them back to their best. With Mauricio Pochettino’s men in good form and firing it is likely to smell trouble for the away side.

However, the Les Rouge in recent years have given tough competition to top teams in France. It is an ambitious side that aims to play in the Champions League. It is in these games where their real mantle will tested. They will also be motivated from their 2-0 win against the Parisians earlier in the season.

But PSG are a different team from the start of the season. It won’t be enough for Rennes to just defend deep and hit on counter-attacks. At times they will have to keep possession of the ball as well. For the home side the moment Les Rouge try to keep possession of the ball they will have to try to press them and win the ball high up the pitch.

Paris Saint Germain: Gianluigi Donnarumma; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes; Danilo Pereira, Leonardo Paredes, Marco Verratti; Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Xavi Simons.

Rennes: Alfred Gomis; Hamari Traore, Warmed Omari, Nayef Aguerd, Birger Meling; Lovro Majer, Martin Terrier, Baptiste Santamaria; Benjamin Bourigeaud, Gaëtan Laborde, Terrier.

Head to Head Stats

Mauricio Pochettino vs Bruno Génésio

The PSG manager is yet to get a win against the former Lyon manager. They have locked horns two times and Génésio has won once and one game has been a draw.

Players to Watch out for

Marco Verrati (Paris Saint Germain)

Rennes are likely to hunt for the ball with a lot of energy. In that process, if they are able to win the ball they will be able to launch attacks. Verrati will not only have to stop such attacks he will also have to make sure that there is a tempo to PSG’s game. With Les Rouges players committing there will be spaces left behind. The Italian will also be tasked to use his creativity to find such spaces for the attackers.

Baptiste Santamaria (Rennes)

It will be very suffocating for the away side if they decide to sit deep for a whole of ninety minutes. But if they try to keep possession, the Parisians will press them hard. Thus in order to navigate his team through PSG’s press Santamaria will have to take more risks on the ball. The Frenchman distribution has to be superb if, Rennes wishes to get something out of this game.

12th Man Prediction: Paris Saint Germain 2 vs Rennes 1

Les Rouge have got the spirit but the Ligue 1 leaders have the quality as well. They will fight hard but PSG should be able to nick it away.

Beckham has previously stated his ambition to lure the best stars in football to the MLS-newcomer. Blaise Matuidi, Gonzalo Higuain, Ryan Shawcross, Kieran Gibbs, and DeAndre Yedlin are among the players who have already joined the Miami team.

Beckham’s team has yet to fight for the MLS title despite earlier acquisitions. They are currently ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference, nine points behind leaders Philadelphia, and are managed by former Manchester United star Phil Neville.

Beckham wants to lure Messi and Suarez to Florida, according to GOAL. Messi, 34, still has a year left on his PSG contract, but he has struggled to recapture his best form in Paris, scoring 11 goals in 34 games.

The Argentine has already indicated an interest in playing in the MLS, and according to Spanish source Marca, he’s going to buy shares in Miami ahead of a summer 2023 transfer. He also has a Florida apartment.

I’ve always wanted to appreciate and have the pleasure of living in the United States, to see what the league is like there, but not yet,” Messi stated in 2020.

Suarez, however, will be a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid expires next month. The 35-year-old is considering a move to Miami, but for the time being, he prefers to stay in Europe, with clubs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia also interested in his services.

Between 2014 and 2020, Messi and Suarez had a successful collaboration at Barcelona, winning four La Liga titles, four Spanish Cups, the Champions League, and other trophies. During that time, they combined for a whopping 478 goals.

With Messi in Miami in a few years?” Suarez was recently asked about playing alongside Messi again. “Hopefully. We’ve worked well together both on and off the field. Nothing beats witnessing two coworkers happy outside so they can perform well inside.

“Leo Messi is still one of the best players in the world, his skills have not lessened,” Miami co-owner Jorge Mass remarked when asked about signing Messi in February.

I feel, and David has a relationship with him, that if he leaves PSG, we would love to have Messi play for Inter Miami and be a part of our community. Is it possible? We’ll try. Can I see that happening? I’m an optimist at heart. It’s conceivable.”

Beckham also stated: “Well, guess what? We’ve got some fantastic opportunities in Miami. Many other players have approached us about joining the team.
