Manchester United News: Greenwood won’t get any compensation from Nike.

Manchester United News: Mason Greenwood was dropped from his Nike sponsorship deal without receiving a penny of compensation. It might have come as a surprise to many but Sportsmail has come up with the details.

The US sportswear was the first brand that cut ties with the Manchester United striker. They started with suspending their ties with him. However, later on, they confirmed that Mason Greenwood ‘is no longer a Nike athlete’.

Everyone was under shock when the Carrington graduate was arrested. The arrest came on the suspicion of raping, sexually assaulting, and threatening to kill an 18-year-old student.

If Sportsmail is to be believed, there was a clause in the endorsement deal. It stated Nike would have not to pay any compensation to him due to reputational damage and loss of commercial value.

The reputation of Greenwood is totally tarnished. The 20-year-old was due to sign an improved contract with Nike next year, but his arrest means that he will lose out on millions.

It’s believed that the only money owing to Greenwood would be any outstanding bonus payments. However, he may even have to give back some of this year’s earnings to Nike if they were paid upfront.

United, on the other hand, will keep paying him the wages even though he is suspended till further notice. The England u 21 international was arrested but later released on bail.

What does Joseph Lappin have to say?

Joseph Lappin is head of employment at UK law firm Stewarts. According to him, Greenwood’s player contract says he can only be suspended for 14 days on full pay. He further added: ‘The player is free to return to training after 14 days even if the police investigation is still ongoing.’

‘I don’t think United is going to let him return to the club. that would be a huge PR disaster for them. They have other options on how they can deal with it.’

‘Manchester United may say that for as long as any police investigation and criminal prosecution remains life, they have the power under the player contract to continue the suspension or re-suspend.’

What can Manchester United do?

Lappin added: ‘The dismissal of Greenwood can happen anytime while the investigation is on. Greenwood would stand to be compensated by the club. These are the sums owing to him under the remaining term of his contract if his dismissal was found to be unlawful.’

‘If Manchester United considers that the employment relationship has reached the end of the road, more likely is that club proposes terminating the contract. The termination will come with a settlement sum.’

Paul Woolston, the Red Devils goalkeeper has to retired aged just 23

Manchester United News: Paul Woolston, the Red Devils’ goalkeeper, has announced his retirement at the age of 23. After joining the Red Devils from Newcastle in 2018, the North Shields-born stopper has been forced to put time on his brief career owing to injuries.

“I never thought I’d have to write this at 23,” the ex-England youth international posted on Twitter. “I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished in my career, but I’m even more thrilled about what the future holds. A new chapter is about to begin.”

Woolston, who re-signed with the Red Devils last summer, also said to “It’s been difficult to accept having to retire at the age of 23, but I’m much more optimistic today. “I’m quite pleased with everything I’ve accomplished; many people aspire to play football at my level.”

“Of course, I would have preferred to continue, but it has been a tremendous honour to represent Manchester United during my time here. My family, friends, teammates, coaches, medical staff, and the entire Manchester United Academy have all been extremely supportive.

Fans greeted the 23-year-old with rapturous applause, as did his fellow goalkeepers at Old Trafford, notably David de Gea.

“Early retirement is never a good thing for anyone,” the United No. 1 remarked. “I spoke with him the other day and told him that the most important thing in terms of a proper existence is life, not football.”

“It was depressing. I used to work out with him when he was in good shape, and this is very terrible news. I wish him the best of luck. He’s a fantastic young man and a fantastic goalkeeper, and we all pity him.”

“I used to exercise with him, and he had a great left foot, I recall, and it’s a shame for him and the club.”

“But, as I previously stated, I was conversing with him, and first and foremost, it is about life and being in good health to live a wonderful life. Of course, difficulties and events occur in life.”

“You have to keep looking forward and battling because that is what life is all about.” As I previously stated, I wish him the best of luck.”

Back-up Dean Henderson has joined De Gea, saying recently, “It’s awful for him and for all of us around him.”

He was a pleasure to work with across all age groups.” I even recall playing against him when he was at Newcastle when I was in the smaller age groups. It’s sad for such a young guy to resign at his age.”

‘It was a wonderful chat about football’ Ten Hag on meeting with Sir Alex a few years back

Manchester United News: The Red Devils managerial candidate Erik ten Hag has already got an insight into life at Old Trafford. This might surprise Manchester United fans, but this happened several years ago when the Dutchman visited Carrington.

Ten Hag recalls a journey to Carrington in November 2008, when Twente took on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. At the time, Ten Hag was Twente’s deputy manager, reporting to former England manager Steve McClaren.

When we played Manchester City, Steve and I went to see Sir Alex Ferguson and had coffee with him the morning before the game. It was a wonderful chat about football,” Ten Hag said on Ajax’s official YouTube page.

When we arrived, Sir Alex Ferguson was sitting in his office. He was the manager, and he had a great view of the Carrington pitches. He could watch training sessions from his office. For me, it was a unique experience.

According to the reports, the United hierarchy has come up with a five men list for the managerial job. Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are the favourites. However, Spain’s Luis Enrique, Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui, and Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel are the other three possibilities.

However, ESPN reports that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has emerged as a short-term candidate. Only if his second spell at Real Madrid comes to an end this summer would the Italian be a viable option.

Ancelotti is doing a stellar job in the Spanish capital even though his Real Madrid side was thrashed by Barcelona. Los Blancos remains the favourite to lift La Liga and is already into quarter-finals of the Champions League. They won the Spanish Super Cup.

Ancelotti’s experience and his titles triumphs over all the managers on the list. The Italian has won three league titles – including the Premier League with Chelsea. He has also won three Champions Leagues during his illustrious managerial career. He’s won 21 trophies as a coach, plus various individual honours.

United is now in fifth place in the Premier League, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal despite having played one extra game. Given that they still have to play Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea, their chances of finishing in the top four are dwindling.

Ralf Rangnick is currently coaching the Red Devils, who have failed to win a title for the fifth consecutive season. Under Jose Mourinho, they won the Europa League in May of 2017.

What did Murtough say?

As we aspire for a top-four finish this season, we know that consistency is critical,” United’s football director John Murtough remarked in early March. “However, I want to emphasise that this is not Manchester United’s ultimate goal, and everyone at the club is focused on competing for the top titles.”

We’re currently undertaking a comprehensive search for a new permanent manager who will take over this summer. Our goal is to compete for domestic and European trophies.”
