There has always been a curse around the tag of the Arsenal skipper. This has haunted the fans of the club for decades now, with many of their top captains leaving the club eventually, after putting in a solid showing. With that being said, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has already left and Alexandre Lacazette is on the verge of an exit, at the end of the current campaign too.
With that being said, there were media outlets talking about who the next Arsenal skipper should be. Names like Kieran Tierney and Martin Odegaard had been thrown around in recent times, with the latter actually captaining the team against Southampton. However, things did not go his way, as he was poor in the game and the team lost 1-0.
The Big Question- Who Will Be The Next Arsenal Skipper!!?
Things did improve for Arsenal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where they won 4-2. Once again Odegaard was the skipper and this time on the right side of things. He claimed an assist for a brilliant open-play goal scored by Emile Smith Rowe in the match too. It was a big win for the Gunners away from home and the fans couldn’t stop cheering for their side.
The other contender for the armband is Tierney, who is really vocal about his opinions on the pitch. With the Scot picking up a long-term injury on international duty that ended his season early, things are right now in favour of the Norwegian, who also captains his international team.
With that being said, the big call could be made in the upcoming weeks. Another name that was doing the rounds was Thomas Partey, who is also injured at present. The Ghanaian was really impressive prior to pulling a muscle during the loss to Crystal Palace. Though the team has tried to recoup form since then, it was only in the London derby that they looked their best self.
Things could get really interesting in the days to follow, as the next permanent Arsenal skipper gets finalized. Who do you think should lead the team?
Arsenal Transfer News: In the next summer transfer window, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur might be prepared to make an offer of forty million euros to Juventus to acquire Weston McKennie’s services
Arsenal Transfer News: It has been reported by Tutto Juve that the Premier League is showing a significant amount of interest in Juventus and United States Men’s National Team midfielder Weston McKennie.
There are rumors that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are all interested in the 23-year-old player. All three teams are prepared to pay a total of €40 million to get his services.
After relocating to Germany at a relatively early age from the United States, McKennie was able to advance quickly via the FC Schalke 04 development program.
The midfielder rose through the ranks to become a regular member of the first squad for the German giants. He has since established himself as one of the most intriguing young prospects in the Bundesliga.
Arsenal Transfer News: Struggle under Allegri
In the summer of 2020, Juventus expressed interest in acquiring McKennie. They ultimately signed him on a loan deal with the option to make the switch permanent.
The 23-year-old was one of the few bright spots for the Italian giants during a lackluster season in 2020/21 led by Andrea Pirlo. This led Bianconeri to use their right to make the permanent purchase clause a part of the contract.
However, McKennie has struggled to get regular playing time with Massimiliano Allegri’s team throughout this current campaign. He has only played for Juventus in a total of 28 matches across all competitions. The 23-year-old has been out since February due to an injury.
He has only appeared in 28 of those matches. Even so, the Turin giants have not closed the door on the possibility of moving him during the summer transfer window. Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham are all interested in purchasing him.
Arsenal’s interest in the past
There were rumors that Arsenal was interested in signing McKennie in the past. It seems that interest has been reignited in him as a result of Mikel Arteta’s desire to improve the quality of his midfield. Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey have both established themselves as regular starters for the Gunners.
But beyond those two, there is not a lot of quality depth. While Albert Sambi Lokonga is still adjusting to the physical requirements of English football, Mohamed Elneny’s contract will be up for renewal in the following month.
Therefore, the acquisition of a new midfielder is at the top of Arsenal’s priority list. McKennie has emerged as a potential target for the club. Arthur Melo, McKennie’s colleague at Juventus, is also on the radars of the north London side.
Race with Tottenham Hotspur
However, they will have to compete with archrivals Tottenham Hotspur, who have also shown a long-standing interest in McKennie. This will make it difficult for them to sign McKennie.
Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, and Harry Winks are all expected to be allowed to leave the club permanently. It means that there will be space on the roster for a new midfielder.
And Tottenham director Fabio Paratici is familiar with McKennie on a personal level since he was the one who brought him to Juventus a few years ago. The Italian is now lobbying for McKennie to join Tottenham.
They are looking to bolster their team in all parts of the field in preparation for a possible push for a top-six finish in the next season. So, McKennie is one of the players they have their sights set on.
The 23-year-old player has the potential to serve as a replacement for Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes. Both of them have been outstanding for the Magpies thus far this year.
According to the report, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham are all considering making a bid of €40 million for McKennie’s signature. These clubs see him as a smart investment. They have the financial resources to pay his wages without any problems. It is yet unknown whether or not they will make a formal offer to the USMNT player.
Nunez makes transfer decision – Saliba told to leave Arsenal – Mavropanos delighted with deal in Arsenal news of the day….
Benfica striker Darwin Nunez has rejected an approach from Arsenal after they reportedly submitted an offer for the forward
Arsenal made the big decision last transfer window to let Pierre-emerick Aubameyang depart the club after he had a very poor start to the new season under Mikel Arteta
However, they failed to delve into that transfer kitty and add an adequate replacement for the Gabon star – and because of that – they have been struggling to score goals in recent weeks
And of course that has led to all sorts of speculation in the media that Arsenal would be very open to adding a new striker to the squad that is a little younger – fresher -and can give Arteta the work rate he wants
Nunez is a player that is hot right now as his 34-goals in all competitions for Benfica this season has caught the attentions of all the big clubs, especially as they could get him for a fee of around £68 million
Chelsea – man United and Newcastle are just a few names that have been linked with a possible move for the man – but it seems that Arsenal have made their moves to get a transfer deal done.
According to RMC Sport, Arsenal have already indicated to Nunez’s camp that they would be willing to pay €80 million (£67.8m) to sign the striker this summer.
But the report claims that Nunez has refused the Gunners approach as he wants to join a club who will be in the Champions League next season.
It is very easy to see just why Arsenal are very keen on Nunez – he is a brilliantly gifted young striker with a bright future in the game
If they do not get Champions League football on the final day of the season – they will surely struggle to attract the biggest players
Mavropanos delighted with deal…
Arsenal have sold Konstantinos Mavropanos to Stuttgart following a £3million deal with the Bundesliga outfit.
Signed for Arsene Wenger by Sven Mislintat in January 2018, Mavropanos was earmarked as a player for the future at Emirates Stadium but saw his development seriously hampered by injuries.
A number of loan deals has been the nature of his career at the Emirates – but he really fell on his feet at Stuttgart and made a big impression for the Bundesliga side – who were keen to keep him on a permanent basis.
He’s made 55 appearances since joining in the summer of 2020 and the Germans are delighted that Arsenal have allowed him to leave – On making the loan deal permanent, Mislintat said: “Dinos brings enormous power and willpower to our game and has also stabilised at a high physical level.
“He has made a clear commitment to VfB and our path, and we are very much looking forward to continuing to work together.”
Mavropanos told Stuttgart’s official website: “I’ve always given my best and will continue to give my best for this great club.
“The trust of the management and the affection of the fans in Stuttgart serve as a great motivation for me.”
It is a shame that the young man never really got the chance to prove to many that he is good enough to play for Arsenal – but at least he has found a home for himself.
The Bundesliga is a very good place to reignite a career and Arsenal fans will surely wish him the best of luck
This is massive news for the lad and as you can see – he is delighted with the transfer deal
Saliba told to leave…
Former Arsenal star Matteo Guendozi wants William Saliba to join him at Marseille on a permanent basis.
The defender signed for Arsenal in 2019 after establishing himself as one of the best young talents in the game, but is yet to make an appearance for the Gunners after going on three different loan spells.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a successful season in Ligue 1 with his performances earning him a call up to the France national team, subsequently earning his first cap earlier this year.
Saliba is due to return to north London at the end of the season to fight for a starting spot under Mikel Arteta, and there is a massive feeling that he needs to be given a chance in the side
But Guendozi would like his former Arsenal pal to remain with him at Marseille – He said: “I hope William stays here. He’s having a great season, he deserves everything that has happened to him.
“He’s a great guy outside, he’s had a lot of great games.”
Look, there has been many rumours about the future of the player and whether or not he should be given a chance in that Gunners side. But if Arteta sits him down and says look: you will not be the first choice and will have to fight – he may not fancy it
Arteta has used Ben White and Gabriel as his centre-back pairing for the majority of the season with Rob Holding also filling in, so he has a settled pairing that has been impressing
So it will be interesting to see just how this all plays out as Saliba has a career that is now on the rise – he is in the French squad too – and making a move back to the Emirates to sit on the bench will not be the right decision to make
He is a brilliant talent and has a very big future in the game – his next choice is a massive one
Arsenal News: The Gunners have decided that they will have a new number 11 next season. Gabriel Martinelli’s number for the next season has been change and Lucas Torreira responded with a sarcastic remark.
Mike Arteta’s side will wear the new jersey for the first time at home to Everton, on Sunday. The new shirt was released at the same time as Brazilian attacker Martinelli was given a new shirt number at the club.
Martinelli will have a different squad number next season. Since joining Arsenal, the young Brazilian has worn the number 35 shirt, but he will now wear the number 11 shirt.
There was only one problem: Martinelli’s teammate Torreira was already wearing the number 11 shirt. The tenacious midfielder is nearing the end of a season-long loan term at Fiorentina, where he has five goals in 34 games.
Unai Emery signed the Uruguayan in the summer of 2018. He made 89 first-team appearances in his first two seasons at the club before being overshadowed by Arteta, Emery’s replacement. Last season, he was loaned to Atletico Madrid and spent this season with Fiorentina in Italy.
Torreira wore the number 11 shirt for Arsenal during his tenure there. His reaction to Martinelli’s revelation on Arsenal’s social media shows that he was not informed of the move.
The Uruguayan wrote: “What number will I wear next year?” Torreira went on to clarify: “Good luck amigo @gabriel.martinelli I love you.”
The central midfielder has a good relationship with Martinelli. It is the latest hint that he would not be part of Arteta’s plans next season.
Torreira was one of the numerous newcomers to The Emirates in the 2018/19 season. He was one of the many signings that Arsenal made after Arsene Wenger’s departure.
Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and Denis Suarez were all on loan. Whereas, Matteo Guendouzi looks ready to join Marseille on a permanent basis.
After signing for £26 million from Sampdoria three years ago, it looks unlikely that the Gunners will recuperate even a fraction of that sum if he leaves this summer.
Martinelli, along with Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Emile Smith-Rowe, is one of a slew of dynamic young attackers who have impressed under Arteta this season. Arsenal, on the other hand, is likely to undergo an offensive overhaul this summer. Both strikers, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah due to leave as free agents.
