Leeds’ double injury blow confirmed with pair facing three weeks out

Leeds’ latest double injury blow confirmed with pair of attackers facing three weeks out

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has, on Friday afternoon, confirmed a fresh double injury blow amid his side’s ranks.

Back on track

Bielsa is of course set to guide his troops back into action this weekend.

In one of the ties of the 3rd round, the Whites will make the trip to the London Stadium, for an FA Cup showdown with David Moyes’ high-flying West Ham United.

Leeds head to the capital with confidence no doubt high in the camp, on the back of a crucial 3-1 downing of Burnley last time out.

The result marked just the club’s 4th victory of the Premier League campaign to date, guiding them a full eight points clear of the relegation zone in the process.

Gelhardt ruled out

Key to Leeds’ eventual triumph over Burnley, meanwhile, were the contributions of up-and-coming sensation Joe Gelhardt.

After being introduced from the bench early in the 2nd-half, hitman Gelhardt added such much-needed impetus to an at times static frontline, even chipping in with the assist for Dan James’ 3rd, courtesy of a sumptuous floated delivery into the Burnley area.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a heavy blow to the Whites faithful to hear that their starring young talent, already a firm fan favourite, will be unavailable to face West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

Not only that, but Gelhardt is facing up to a potential spell of three weeks on the sidelines, owing to an ankle injury picked up in training.

Fellow hitman Tyler Roberts is primed for a similar stretch on the treatment table, too, after picking up a fitness problem of his own.

Thankfully from a Leeds perspective, though, star hitman Patrick Bamford looks set to play at least some role at the London Stadium, having returned to first-team training this week.

Manchester United’s Amad Diallo nets on Rangers debut

Manchester United’s Amad Diallo has made an instant impact on his debut for new club, Rangers.

Diallo would, of course, join Manchester United from Atalanta in January of 2021.

The 19-year-old has made a handful of appearances for the Red Devils’ senior side, scoring one and assisting one in the process.

But Diallo has spent most of his time in England either playing for United’s under-23s or on the injury table.

So, a loan move to get some much-needed playing time did make sense for Diallo, who joined Rangers earlier this week for the remainder of 2021/22.

Despite his limited experience, Diallo was thrust straight into Ranger’s starting line-up this weekend when they took on Ross County in an SPL clash.

And Diallo had an almost instant impact, scoring his first Rangers goal after just five minutes, which you can watch below:

Rangers’ title charge

Should Rangers pick up three points on Saturday, which seems likely at present, it moves them seven points clear of 2nd place Celtic.

Celtic, however, still have a game in hand on Rangers, so that gap could be reduced to four this weekend.

But it still does look likely that Rangers are set to defender their SPL crown despite losing Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa earlier in the season.

Denis Zakaria set to hand Arsenal & Aston Villa potential boost in midfielder hunt

Denis Zakaria set to hand Arsenal & Aston Villa potential boost in midfielder hunt

A transfer update surrounding Juventus that has emerged on Saturday could be great news for two Premier League clubs.

The Premier League clubs in question are Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Arsenal, for their part, had been linked with Juventus’ Arthur Melo for much of the January window, but that deal looked to have collapsed.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, are said to want to sign Rodrigo Bentancur from the Turin-based outfit:

Aston Villa & Arsenal boost?

Now, Juventus are reportedly needing to get rid of one of these two players soon.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have submitted an opening proposal to sign Denis Zakaria immediately, but the Italians need at least one midfielder to leave in the next hours.

Romano goes on to name Arthur and Bentancur as the players that could leave right now.

Given the winter window slams shut on Monday, Juventus seemingly need to act fast to get a midfielder or two out.

And with Arsenal having already been in contact over Arthur, it would make sense that Juve let him depart to the Gunners, instead of waiting for another team to come in for the Brazilian.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney issues apology after explicit video emerges

Brentford’s Ivan Toney issues apology after explicit video emerges

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has issued an apology after a video of himself emerged on social media on Friday.

The video in question saw the striker partying in Dubai. Whilst doing so, Toney was recorded saying ‘F**k Brentford’.

After the video emerged, it was reported that Brentford were investigating the matter:

Now, on Saturday morning, Toney has taken to social media to issue a statement: “I am aware of a video of me that was published on social media today, taken in Dubai where I have been on holiday during the winter break. In it, I used language that was unacceptable.

“The video was cut short and edited, but I have to accept the impact this has had and I realise I should not have put myself in that position.

“I have explained to the gaffer what happened and apologised to him but I also want to apologise to all Brentford fans.

“I respect the way you all support the team and I have to say how much I love playing for the club and you.

“I’ll be back training next week, working hard to score more goals to win us more for the rest of the season.”

Will Ivan Toney be dropped for Brentford?

Brentford’s next clash after the winter break is an FA Cup 4th round tie vs Everton.

The Bees then face Manchester City in a Premier League match on Wednesday the 9th.

Given the importance of Ivan Toney to this Brentford team, it will be interesting to see if Thomas Frank opts to drop the striker as punishment for the video.
