Laurie Whitwell confirms Manchester United’s midfield transfer plans this January – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are reportedly working on signing a central midfielder this month.

The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell confirmed on the Talk Of the Devils podcast that Ralf Rangnick is looking to strengthen that area of his team and that the club is working towards a possible signing.

“In terms of incomings, Ralf Rangnick does want a central midfielder to come in this month and there are talks in the works for that. There’s a couple of names I’ve heard, but I want to make a few more checks before naming them.”

The possible names could include Denis Zakaria, a player who has recently been heavily linked to United.

Another two players who could be on United’s radar are Amadou Haidara and Boubacar Kamara.

The trio has been mentioned in multiple reports since Rangnick took over.

Aurélien Tchouaméni is another name that has been linked with an Old Trafford move, although a winter signing would be complicated in this case.

This would be a much-needed signing for United, who have been crying out for another option in midfield.

With Paul Pogba injured, Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic are the only midfielders available for Rangnick to choose from.

Although competent, neither of them can dictate tempo from the centre of the park which results in United getting dominated by weaker teams.

The team needs a change in dynamic in midfield and fans will be pleased that the club is actively looking to buy someone this month.

Manchester United set to miss out on eleven cut-rate targets this month – Man United News And Transfer News

So far this winter transfer window has been dominated by reports of who Manchester United are not trying to sign rather than who they are.

Sitting seventh in the Premier League table and with obvious vacancies to fill in certain positions in the squad, it seems unbelievable that the Red Devils will sit back and allow the clubs just ahead of them in the Premier League to strengthen while they twiddle their thumbs and do nothing.

As reported here yesterday, there are claims that the board is reluctant to sanction interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s transfer requests in case they are not players that the next permanent manager would choose.

But if by not strengthening, United fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the next permanent manager will be facing the real possibility of a mass exodus from the club coupled with an inability to attract top players who want to test themselves at the highest level.

Furthermore, there is an unprecedented number of quality players who are entering the last six months of their contracts and three of the world’s most promising young strikers also set to be snapped up in an ‘if you snooze, you lose’ situation.

The Athletic today published an article listing three ‘sensible transfers’ for United in the defensive midfield department, but admitted that the club would not sign any of them this month. But the question is, which, if any of them, will still be available in the summer?

RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara is being targeted by Newcastle United, Roma and AC Milan are fighting over Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara and the other player cited by the outlet, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, is likely to stretch the budget to a point that would rule him out – even if he were willing to move to United.

Other great midfield options who are coming to the end of their contracts, but who United are reportedly not pursuing, include Milan’s own Franck Kessie, who Spurs are trying to sign this month, and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria, who could be Bayern Munich bound.

Meanwhile, Juventus are planning an 18-month loan deal for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

Setting aside Bellingham, there are five strong midfielders listed here who could instantly improve United’s midfield immeasurably and immediately and all at a fraction of their true value. Yet United continue to look all five gift horses in the mouth.

Meanwhile, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani nearing the end of their careers – and Cavani the end of his contract in June – United need strikers. Several reports claim they have given up hope of signing Erling Haaland from Dortmund and yet it appears they are going to allow neighbours City to snap up River Plate’s highly-rated Julian Alvarez for around £13 million and Arsenal to capture Serie A leading goalscorer – and a player some say is even better than Haaland – Dusan Vlahovic for around £66 million.

Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, a world class centre back, is also coming onto the free transfer market but he looks set to be snapped up by Juventus.

For their own part, Chelsea are reportedly making a move to sign Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé, a €140 million player long-coveted by United, who the Catalans have told to pack his bags and leave by the end of the month.

This inactivity from United, coupled with their seeming inability to cash in on their own contract rebels such as Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba, is hard to explain or justify.

It may very well come back to haunt them in the summer.

Amadou Haidara: Manchester United have open dialogue for Ralf Rangnick target – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United fans have been given updates by multiple sources in regards to the club’s interest in RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara.

It’s been known that Ralf Rangnick is keen on a midfielder this transfer window but it remains to be seen if it’s a real possibility.

Sport1’s chief reporter tweeted this on Haidara: “Newcastle and Manchester United are interested in Amadou Haidara who’s dreaming of playing in UK (favourite club as a kid: Manchester United). Talks ongoing. But RB Leipzig’s pov is quite clear: No interest to sell the midfielder in winter! €40m-release-clause activates in summer.”

Journalist Jonathan Shrager tweeted the following too: “Whilst talks are in preliminary stages, I am told that there is now an open dialogue between Manchester United and RB Leipzig regarding Amadou Haidara”

However, according to The Mirror, United’s stalling could see them miss out on Haidara, despite the player being high on Rangnick’s wishlist.

The German boss has already put in calls to RB Leipzig to get the deal going and they are open to selling, having verbally agreed a £33m fee.

However, the lack of a formal bid could prove costly, especially since Newcastle United having come sniffing around.

The Red Devils are apparently hesitant to give Rangnick full control in the market, especially since he won’t be the long-term manager.

This has annoyed him as he feels he hasn’t been backed in the transfer window so far, especially with so many players’ futures being up in the air.

This has left Rangnick wondering whether he will have any influence moving forward.

Fans are certainly excited by the potential incoming of Haidara but not many have hope the board will do something useful this month.

Man United can sign Haidara if £33 million clause is met

RB Leipzig star Amadou Haidara is once again being tipped for a move to Manchester United.

Despite a ferocious spending spree which saw Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo join the club in the summer transfer window, United currently find themselves in a race for the top four rather than the Premier League title

It is very clear to see that United boss Ralph Rangnick needs some back-up if he is to get this side back into the hunt for that Premier League title, rather than just a Champions League place

And that has led to rumours that he could Haidara is a man that Rangnick would like this transfer window

The United boss was the man who convinced the Mali international to join him at Leipzig, despite the fact he was carrying an injury at the time.

In December, Haidara spoke glowingly about the United manager in an interview with Bild, before stating Manchester United was his favourite team growing up.

Haidara understands Rangnick’s demanding philosophy inside out, and United desperately need a new deep-lying midfielder who can provide a safety blanket to the defence and efficiently move the ball to the front-line.

According to the The Mirror, Haidara will be allowed to depart the club if United pay his release clause, estimated to be around £33m.

IcFootballnews view….

This United side have a bunch of world class players in it, but they seemingly cant work together and there are too many issues on that pitch. The answer is not always to delve into that transfer kitty and add a few more players, but they need too

This United side may struggle to get back into a top four spot when they have the players to challenge. Haidara is a solid player that will do the job he will be brought for
