Julian Alvarez: Touted Manchester United move said to be agent driven – Man United News And Transfer News

Published

Manchester United’s interest in River Plate’s Julian Alvarez is reportedly mostly agent talk as he looks to secure a move abroad.

The striker was said to be on the wishlist at Old Trafford but it seems the rumours were largely false.

“1️⃣ | The idea of Manchester United paying a 20m release clause for a young player like Julián Álvarez is improbable at the moment. Most of the Álvarez to United links are agent talk to generate interest. #MUFC [@AndyMitten, Talk of the Devils]

“1️⃣ | The Julián Álvarez rumours are agent driven and also coming from Ralf Rangnick appreciating the striker since his days at Lokomotiv Moscow. #MUFC [@FabrizioRomano, @UnitedStandMUFC]”

United don’t necessarily need a striker now as they are well-stocked with options but it could all change rather quickly.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Edinson Cavani can all lead the line to various degrees.

However, Ronaldo was rumoured to be unhappy with the Red Devils, while Martial has already made his desire to leave public.

Cavani was also said to be on his way out this winter before Ralf Rangnick shut down the idea as quickly as he could.

The experienced Uruguayan’s contract runs out this summer either way and so the rumoured interest in Alvarez made sense to some extent despite not being a priority.

This is particularly because Rashford, Martial, and Greenwood have also been used as wingers and not solely as natural strikers.

Man United confirm their interest in Julian Alvarez of River Plate – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have confirmed their interest in signing River Plate’s sensational young striker Julian Alvarez, according to reports from Italy.

The 21 year old finished the Argentinian season as the league’s top scorer and his powerful performances have catapulted him into being one of the world’s most sought-after young forwards.

His £17 million buyout clause and the fact that the Argentinian season has now finished mean that he is one of the most likely players to be snapped up in the winter window and his agent is reportedly in Europe talking to several top clubs.

Conflicting reports have said United were about to trigger the release clause and that they were not at all interested in signing the player at this stage.

This new report from Gazzetta dello Sport pitches United’s interest somewhere in the middle:

‘Atletico Madrid were among the first to send their 007s on a mission and the agent also had an interview in Spain with Real Sociedad,’ the outlet claims.

‘On the English stage, however, United have confirmed their interest, while from Argentina they include Nice in France.’

Four Italian clubs, AC and Inter Milan, Napoli and Atalanta, are all pursuing the star, leading Gazzetta to muse, ‘Who will win the auction for Alvarez?’

The assumption here is that given the current financial climate, the release clause will not be triggered – there would be no auction if the figure was met. Bids under the £17 million are therefore expected in the coming days.

Previous reports in the Italian press have also claimed that the Italian sides want to negotiate below the £17 million figure.

If United are, indeed interested, this puts them in a very strong position as simply triggering that buyout option could be enough to see off their cash-strapped opposition.

With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani being in the twilight of their careers, capturing a young star such as Alvarez at this stage could represent very shrewd business for the Red Devils.

Man United set to miss out on both Dusan Vlahovic and Julian Alvarez – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are in danger of losing out on three of the hottest young strikers in world football, leaving themselves reliant on the aging forward line of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Much has been written about their pursuit of Erling Haaland, from narrowly missing out on his signature in January 2020 when he moved to Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg, to the present day.

However, recent reports have claimed that the Norwegian has his heart set on joining Real Madrid when his €75 million release clause becomes active in June. United for their part are reported to have admitted defeat and dropped interest.

The hottest property on the Italian market right now is Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic. The 21-year-old is Serie A’s top goalscorer this season and is also available for €75 million. Unlike Haaland, he could be sold in this window as Fiorentina look to secure a deal ‘in the slipstream’ of all the activity around Haaland, to quote The Independent’s Miguel Delaney.

But despite initial reports linking United with an interest, Arsenal seem to be the only English club seriously pursuing him in this window.

The Gunners are pushing for a top four finish and with the disciplinary problems surrounding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a striker is one of their top priorities.

The issue for United is that if they do not act now, they will miss the boat if, as expected, Arsenal make their move.

‘While every club in Europe wants to sign [Haaland] this summer, only one will win and that is currently expected to be Real Madrid. Several top clubs could subsequently turn their attention to Vlahovic,’ Delaney writes.

‘By then, Arsenal could well be a Champions League club again too, but Vlahovic’s arrival this month would undoubtedly help those chances.’

United would also be wise to consider that the top four spot that Arsenal are gunning for is one that they themselves hope to clinch. It could be a mistake to allow a rival to strengthen with such a strong, young, talented forward to help them achieve that aim, especially when United themselves will desperately need such a player in six months’ time.

Another ship that may be sailing without a red flag on the mast is that of River Plate’s Julian Alvarez.

Another talented 21 year old who also finished his league as top goalscorer, Alvarez is considerably cheaper than Vlahovic at €20 million. United were strongly rumoured to be about to trigger his release clause in this window but those rumours have also subsided.

The latest report from Argentina (Olé, via Tuttosport) claims that ‘Napoli, Atalanta and Nice: these are, at the moment, the only three clubs really interested in Julián Álvarez.’

As we discussed here earlier today, fans had hoped that this window would see a lot of outgoing activity as well as one or two fresh faces coming in as the Red Devils push for a top four finish. As things stand, it is looking as if those hopes could be dashed.

Manchester United News: Manchester United fans are believing again in terms of signing big-name players in the summer window. They are optimistic because Ed Woodward is gone, and they will have Ralf Rangnick looking at the transfers from his consultant role.

United officials are looking at Erling Haaland to be their marquee signing this summer. The Borussia Dortmund star is an absolute beast of a striker.

However, the problem is that every top club wants the striker. The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City are willing to sign him. Yet the problem is that the Norwegian star is also a target for pretty much every elite side across Europe.

This gives Dortmund the authority to cash in on their star asset. The competition will be fierce, and they would love to see the clubs get into a bidding war.

Manchester United News: Five alternatives of Erling Haaland for United

Today, we will be looking at the five potential alternatives for Haaland:

1. Dusan Vlahovic (Fiorentina)

Dusan Vlahovic is the closest striker in terms of the quality of Haaland in the market. The Serbian sniper has been scoring goals for fun in Serie A. He will be turning 22 in a few weeks’ time.

Vlahovic is a complete striker. In today’s world, we can call him a traditional number 9. The 6’3’’ striker arrived in Italy from Partizan Belgrade in his home country back in 2018.

He wasn’t prolific at the beginning, but things changed last season and juggernaut is hard to stop now.

The 21-year-old striker is a powerful striker with great hold-up play capabilities. The La Viola striker scored 21 goals last campaign and is on 16 goals already at the halfway stage in Serie A now.

2. Jonathan David (LOSC Lille)

Jonathan David is a name that is not very high profile but is doing more than a decent job at the highest level. The 21-year-old Canadian international arrived at Gent in 2018. He scored 37 goals and provided 15 assists in just two seasons in Belgium.

This was enough to make other clubs around Europe take notice, and it was Lille who signed him in the summer of 2020.

The signing turned out to be a genius move as the striker helped Lille to a title win over the powerhouse PSG. He scored 16 times for them across all competitions so far.

3. Arthur Mendonça Cabral (FC Basel 1983)

Arthur Cabral joined the Swiss giants on loan from Palmeiras ahead of the 2019/20 season.

He proved his presence during his loan spell. The Brazilian scores 16 times and provided three assists. This was more than enough for Basel to sign him permanently for £4million at the end of that season.

The 6’1’’ is very physical by nature, but that doesn’t make him any less with his technical abilities.

4. Karim Adeyemi (RB Salzburg)

Karim Adeyemi took the Austrian Bundesliga by storm in his first full season with Salzburg. Just 19 years of age, the German international scored an impressive nine goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions.

5. Julian Alvarez (River Plate)

Julian Alvarez is the hottest transfer topic now. The Argentinian striker is linked with a move to Europe, and we know why. The 21-year-old was on another level with River Plate throughout this season.

The now Argentinian international scored 24 goals and provided 16 assists in 32 club appearances this season. If reports are to believe, Manchester United are looking at Alvarez with high hopes.

Best described as a fluid forward, Alvarez’s ability means he can operate anywhere across a front line, yet he is at his most dangerous playing through the middle as a center-forward.

The 5’7’’ striker is very fluid and can play in any position in the forward line. The low centre of gravity gives him the extra dribbling ability to terrorize the opposition defenders.
