Is Fred The Man To Solve United’s Midfield Woes?

Published

Manchester United News: Ralf Rangnick is under the pump even without completing 10 games at the helm with Manchester United.

The German is well respected throughout the world, but recently his decisions have baffled many people.

The few questionable decisions include the reinstatement of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to the starting 11. The substitutions of Mason Greenwood, despite being the best player at times. The front two of Cavani and Ronaldo look immobile for the most part of the games.

Manchester United News: Is Rangnick at fault for United’s woes?

United looked full of energy in the German’s first game in charge. However, the energy has faded away since then and it’s a struggle.

It will be harsh, however, if we put all the blame on him. The former RB Leipzig manager tenure has been largely disrupted by a Covid-19 breakout so far. If he wants to implement such a radical change of system, he does need some time with the players amidst the reports of a dressing room crisis.

The problem at the club runs deep. The German will be blamed, but it’s more on the players now. They are some of the best players in the world and can’t put together a run of simple passes. The players lack the guts and tenacity to get the job done on a weekly basis.

The defeat at Wolves was coming for sure. The Red Devils escaped somehow with a draw against Newcastle, but Wolves turned out to be too hot for them. The team had no desire and lacked belief as they were playing one of the best teams on the planet, with no disrespect to wolves.

As the reports of disgruntled players wanting to leave come out, the pressure is immense on the manager. Rangnick will have to come up with big changes before it’s late for the club in their pursuit of Champions League football next season.

Is Fred the solution for midfield?

Manchester United News: Is Fred The Man To Solve United's Midfield Woes?

Fred may not be rated highly by the Old Trafford faithful and the United fans around the world, but his presence is needed in this team.

The Brazilian is not a world-class player, and we know it but his ability to win the ball back is crucial. The stats show his importance to this team as well.

United’s win percentage with Fred this season (W9 D4 L4) stands at 53%. Whereas without him (W3 D2 L4) it stands merely at 33%.

We might question the Brazilian’s ability to hold the ball, but his energy, tenacity, and ability to win the ball can’t be questioned at all.

It’s not just a few games we are talking about. The story last season was very similar. In the 2020/21 season, United’s win rate with Fred was 57% and the loss rate was 16 percent. Without him, those figures were 53% and 32%.

It is obvious that the Brazilian’s presence makes United better. The other reason to start him is simple, Rangnick doesn’t have many options available with him.

Scott McTominay plays blow hot and cold. The midfielder was dominant against Burnley. However, he followed it up by a ghostly performance against Wolves and got a yellow card.

Chelsea Transfer news: Hugo Ekitike joined Reims’ youth academy in 2013 before making his professional debut for the club in 2020. He played 19 league games for the club thus far, scoring eight goals in the process.

The 19-year-old attacker spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Danish club Vejle Boldklub, where he scored three goals in 11 appearances. Ekitike is also a part of France’s youth set-up, featuring twice for France’s U-20 team thus far.

Chelsea transfer news: Blues enter race to sign Reims’ Hugo Ekitike

According to reports, Chelsea have enquired with Ligue 1 club Reims about attacker Hugo Ekitike. The Blues contacted the French club in relation to signing Ekitike in the summer.

Ekitike has been in brilliant form for the French club this season, scoring eight goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances. His performances caught the attention of top clubs across Europe, who have sent scouts to see him over the past few weeks.

However, the Grand Est-based side are demanding €40 million to let Ekitike leave and it remains to be seen whether the Blues will pay that sort of sum for the 19-year-old.

What will Hugo Ekitike bring to Chelsea?

Chelsea news: Blues enquired about Reims’ Hugo Ekitike

Ekitike is a versatile attacker who is capable of playing anywhere across the forward line. His key strengths are his dribbling and finishing skills, along with having the vision to find his teammates in high goalscoring positions. He averaged 1.2 shots, 0.8 dribbles and 0.5 key passes per 90 in Ligue 1 this season. Apart from that, he also likes to get back to help his teammates in defence, averaging 0.9 tackles per 90 in the French top division.

Newcastle also showing interest in Hugo Ekitike

The Northeast-based club are amidst a relegation battle in the English Premier League this season. Manager Eddie Howe has signed Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier in recent weeks to strengthen his team’s bid for survival in the English top division.

He is now looking to further bolster his team’s attack by signing Hugo Ekitike. The Toons have reportedly offered Reims £25 million to sign the talented Frenchman. However, there is still some difference between the two teams’ valuation of the player, which they will look to resolve in the coming weeks.

Apart from Ekitike, Dominic Solanke, Divock Origi and Patrik Schick are the other attackers linked with the Toons recently.

What’s next?

Chelsea are currently third in the English top division, 13 points behind leaders Manchester City. They will next play Brighton away before hosting Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on January 23.

Meanwhile, Reims are currently 12th in the Ligue 1 table with 24 points in 21 games. They will play Paris Saint-Germain in the league before facing Bastia in the French Cup on January 27.

Arsenal Transfer News: The Gunners management had recently held talks with Youri Tielemans representatives. The North London club are interested in the Leicester City midfielder and will make an official bid in the summer.

Youri Tielemans has been at Leicester City since July 2019. The Belgian has grown a lot as a player since then, owing to which he is one of the fan favorites at the club.

Tielemans has already created history in his current tenure at Leicester City. The Belgian scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Chelsea in the 2020/21 FA Cup final. Hence getting Leicester City the first FA Cup trophy in their history.

But as per the latest reports, Youri Tielemans wants to leave the Foxes at the end of the season. The 24-year reportedly wants to play at a club that can challenge for championships more frequently. Hence, this has drawn interest from other clubs.

Arsenal Transfer News: Club to go all-in for Youri Tielemans?

Arsenal Transfer News: The Gunners are reportedly preparing a £60m bid for Youri Tielemans in the summer as Real Madrid look on

Real Madrid have been linked with Youri Tielemans for the last few months. But as per El Nacional, Arsenal are set to challenge the Spanish Giants to secure Youri Tielemans signature in the summer.

The Belgian playmaker has especially risen to prominence since the last season. Tielemans had an impressive 6 goals and 4 assists as he played all the games in the Premier League for the Foxes. To add to this, the Belgian has already scored 5 goals in the League in the 2021/22 campaign.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers recognizes that Youri Tielemans is a key player. Owing to this, he has made it clear that the Belgian would not be leaving in the January transfer window.

Arsenal reportedly have recognized Youri Tielemans as their primary transfer target in the summer. The Gunners will reportedly make an initial bid of £60m for the Belgian when the transfer window opens in June.

As per reports, the Gunners have been interested in Youri Tielemans for a long time. But they have stepped up their interest in the last few months after news broke out that the Belgian is looking to leave the Foxes.

Mikel Arteta is in need of a creative central midfielder who could dictate play. Currently, Arsenal use Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka in their midfield, but the duo is primarily defensive. Hence, adding Tielemans would add another dynamic to their play.

Real Madrid also want the Belgian playmaker

As stated earlier, Real Madrid have recently been linked with Youri Tielemans. The Spanish Giants reportedly see the Belgian to lead the midfield in the coming seasons.

Both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric have been invaluable to the Spanish Giants. But given their age, the duo may not be able to deliver at the same levels in the upcoming seasons. Hence, Florentino Perez is reportedly targeting Tielemans to bolster his midfield as the club looks to return to their glory days.

£15 Million price Tag On Phil Jones

Published

By

Manchester United Transfer News: Phil Jones has been valued at £15 million by Manchester United, as the interest in the forgotten defender grows, with Burnley also interested in acquiring him.

United have set a £15 million price tag on Phil Jones, according to the Daily Star, even though the player has made just a handful of appearances for the club in the previous two years.

Burnley and Newcastle are both interested in signing the long-forgotten defender. But they may be hesitant to meet his asking price.

With his inability to participate in active play for over two years as a result of his never-ending fitness issues, Phil Jones has cut a disgruntled figure at Manchester United. He made his first appearance of the season in the recent loss to Wolves. He did well in his brief appearance.

Manchester United Transfer News: Jones has found himself on the sidelines

Since then, though, the defender has once again been neglected. With manager Ralf Rangnick electing to play one of his regulars in the position.

Jones was criticised by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand throughout the early stages of the season.

The latter alleged that the player had squandered the club’s resources by earning regular pay while remaining on the sidelines. His former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was quick to defend him. He pointed out that he had been out of contention due to long-term physical concerns.

However, after Jones’ demonstration that he is still capable of playing at the top level, teams have begun to express an interest in acquiring the defender this month.

Jones has been linked with moves to Burnley and even Newcastle in recent months. He may very well be on the move during this transfer window if a suitable offer is made.

Burnley is now occupying the bottom half of the Premier League standings, which is a precarious position. While Sean Dyche is interested in acquiring several players in a variety of positions, a centre-back is thought to be a crucial position for the club to bolster.

Manchester United Transfer News: Burnley is hesitant to pay the price for Jones

Jones is said to be a candidate for the position. But Manchester United’s asking price for the player might be a barrier to his recruitment. Jones has 18 months remaining on his contract, which pays him £100,000-per-week. Manchester United has set a £15 million asking price for the defender. Because Jones hasn’t played much over the previous two years, the expectations seem to be completely unrealistic.

Burnley is hesitant to either pay the transfer price or match his existing wage. They believe in his ability, but they are not prepared to make a significant financial commitment to a player who has been plagued by injuries and a lack of playing time in recent years. Even if there are other choices, such as the Everton defender Mason Holgate, buying the Everton defender might prove to be a pricey affair for the Clarets.

Jones has piqued the interest of many teams

Jones, on the other hand, has piqued the curiosity of a slew of teams since his recent return. He is unlikely to be short of offers during either the current transfer window or the next one. Benfica has shown an interest in signing the defender. However, he may choose to prolong his career in the Premier League if allowed to do so by the club.

As for Burnley, if they are unable to convince Manchester United to considerably decrease their expectations, they may be forced to search elsewhere for a replacement for Jones. They have received some cash as a result of the sale of Chris Wood to Newcastle. Which they want to utilize wisely to enhance their team and escape relegation.
