Erik Ten Hag will be backed with substantial funds in the summer

Manchester United News: The Red Devils are expected to lose up to a dozen players this summer. They will also be losing two of their top scouts in the coming weeks. Ralf Rangnick claimed that they are “two or three” transfer windows away from competing with Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, loose spending constraints and the fact that their off-field prestige has not deteriorated considerably during a five-year trophy drought will help them get through this latest summer of turmoil.

Erik ten Hag is poised to be named as the club’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down. Since Sir Alex left the club, United has barely challenged for the title.

According to Mirror Football, United’s players have already been informed that a contract has been reached with Ten Hag to take over next season.

UEFA plans to replace financial fair play with a new system that would reward the highest-earning teams starting in 2023, so Ten Hag will have no serious concerns about spending constraints once again.

From 2025, the proposed rules would limit expenditure on wages, transfers, and agents’ fees to 70 percent of club revenue. However, it will be phased in over time, with clubs being able to spend 90% next year and 80% in 2024.

Since the onset of the epidemic, the present financial fair play laws, which have been criticized by some senior UEFA officials as being unfit for purpose, have been modified to safeguard clubs from financial difficulties.

United’s commercial clout is a major factor in its current position of strength. Despite stadiums being unavailable to fans for nearly the whole 2020-21 season, they generated £494 million in income last year. The club’s matchday revenue before the pandemic was almost £100 million every season.

United’s wage bill is significant.

While United’s wage bill is expected to be the third-highest in the Premier League this season, behind City and Chelsea. However, it was only a moderate 65 percent of revenue in 2021, according to Deloitte. The expected departure of high earners like Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani will provide additional leeway for new signings.

Last year, the club spent £29 million on agent fees on agreements that included Cristiano Ronaldo’s re-signing. The fees also include the acquisitions of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

On the other hand, attracting big-name talents to Old Trafford without participating in the Champions League next season may be much more challenging.

Ragnick’s team will have to fight hard to finish fourth. With one game remaining, they are three points behind Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, whom they will visit on Saturday.
