Blues must avoid signing Lucas Digne in favour of academy starlet

Chelsea Transfer news: Left-back Ben Chilwell suffered an ACL injury during the Blues’ UEFA Champions League fixture in November. The England international is set to be out for the rest of the season.

His unavailability has been one of the main reasons the Blues have slumped in recent weeks. The London-based club have managed to win just three league games since his injury.

The Blues currently have Marcos Alonso as a deputy to Chilwell in the squad. However, the Spain international failed to inspire the team during recent fixtures, which forced Thomas Tuchel to look at other options.

Chelsea Transfer news: Blues should surrender Lucas Digne to West Ham

Everton‘s Lucas Digne has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks. The France international is reportedly looking to move away from Goodison Park following a relationship breakdown with manager Rafa Benitez.

Chelsea news: Blues must avoid signing Lucas Digne in favour of academy starlet

The 28-year-old is currently among the best left-backs in the English Premier League and will undoubtedly be an upgrade to Marcos Alonso. However, there are other options, both in terms of signing and promoting from within the club. The Blues have produced a number of world-class players from their Cobham academy in recent years, including Mason Mount and Reece James.

If the London-based club wishes to continue its trend of promoting youth prospects into the first team. They may have to surrender Digne to West Ham United, who also showed keen interest in signing him recently.

Blues to recall Ian Maatsen?

The Dutch left-back has been at the club since his move from PSV Eindhoven in 2019. He put in some outstanding performances on loan at Charlton Athletic last season, which earned him a temporary move to Championship club Coventry City this term.

The 19-year-old has been one of the Sky Blues’ best players this season as they push for a place in the Championship play-offs. He has impressed with his tackling, work rate and ability to read the game during tough situations.

If the Blues decide to recall him from Coventry by the end of the month; it will be a win-win situation for both club and the player. Maatsen will get a run in the first team in the absence of Chilwell and in return, the Blues could get a player who could compete with the England international for years to come.

Even if the move doesn’t work out, Maatsen can go out on loan in the summer to continue his development.

What’s next?

Chelsea are currently chasing Manchester City for the English Premier League title this season. They are currently 10 points behind the Cityzens. Thomas Tuchel will lead his team against National League side Chesterfield FC for the FA Cup third-round game on January 8.

FC Barcelona Intensify Their Pursuit of Cesar Azpilicueta

Chelsea Transfer News: La Liga giants FC Barcelona have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Blues defender Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spaniard’s current contract with Chelsea is all set to run out this summer.

The Catalan club are willing to sign him for free, as Xavi looks to improve the squad at his disposal. With the 32-year-old defender entering his final 6 months of the contract, Barcelona can start talking directly to the player, and reports confirm they have started doing just that.

FC Barcelona are willing to offer Azpilicueta a 2-year contract till 2024. Xavi is very fond of Azpilicueta’s versatility and is hopeful of solving Barcelona’s defensive woes with his signing. Azpilicueta has not yet informed Chelsea of his intentions, with contract talks currently stalled.

The Spanish international is one of the modern greats of the club, having joined the Blues in 2012 from Marseille. In a distinguished career of over 10 years, Azpilicueta has won it all with the club. He has won 11 trophies at Chelsea, including two Premier League titles in 2014/15 and 2016/17.

Azpilicueta also captained the side to their second-ever Champions League title last summer under Thomas Tuchel. He has a whopping 456 appearances for the club in all competitions and has scored 14 goals in them.

Despite being 32-years of age, his ability to play as both a centre back and a right-back works heavily for him. FC Barcelona are looking at players who would be an upgrade on Sergino Dest, who has failed to live up to the expectations so far.

Reports have also claimed that Barcelona are looking to raid Chelsea for another defender apart from Azpilicueta. The Spanish club are also interested in signing young centre back Andreas Christensen.

The Danish international is another defender who is in his final six months of contract at the club, alongside Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger. He too has yet to finalise his contract talks with the club as talks have come to a standstill in the last couple of months.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has urged the player to commit his future to the club as soon as possible, but nothing has materialised as of yet. At only 25-years of age, Chelsea do not want to let go of a promising youngster and are desperate to keep him.

“We are waiting for a long time now for confirmation,” said Tuchel. “It is on Andreas to act how he acts on the pitch. He needs to act now off the pitch, and walk the talk because he tells us that he loves Chelsea.”

“He tells us that he wants to stay and be a big part. He is a big part of a big club. I think he is a perfect fit and I think that he is not done yet here.”

Chelsea, however, are looking to finalise both the players’ contractual situations very soon to keep away clubs from two of their star defenders.

Dembele’s Agent Trying for a Deal

Chelsea’s Transfer News: Ousmane Dembele’s journey at FC Barcelona has been an awkward one. The French international came in as one of the brightest prospects in Europe to Camp Nou.

However, now that he leaves, he’s been deemed as a player who is very inconsistent and cannot be guaranteed as a dependent goal scorer. Additionally, his persistent injuries have not made things easy as well.

Moreover, his high price tag makes things difficult as well for him. Dembele came in for a fee of £121 million. That’s a very high price tag and hence comes a lot of responsibility with it.

In his four seasons at FC Barcelona, Ousmane Dembele has managed to score just the 18 goals in 87 appearances. Those are not good numbers for someone who was brought in to replace Neymar Jr.

Chelsea Transfer News: Ousmane Dembele’s agent trying for a deal

FC Barcelona have made it clear that either Ousmane Dembele renews his contract, or he must look for a new club as he will become a free agent in the summer.

A lot of clubs are interested in the French forward and one of them is Premier League club Chelsea. Moreover, it has now been reported that Ousmane Dembele’s agent is in London to finalise a deal for his player. Chelsea have been eyeing Dembele for some time now, and this could be their ideal time. FC Barcelona are looking to cash in as they don’t want to lose him out as a free agent.

Thomas Tuchel could welcome Ousmane Dembele in the January transfer window as Barcelona look to part ways with him. Moussa Sissoko, Dembele’s agent, is keen to get down a contract for Dembele before the transfer window closes next week.

Chelsea Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel gives his views on Ousmane Dembele transfer

Amidst all the transfer news of Ousmane Dembele joining Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel has spoken about the player. Tuchel praised Dembele highly and has said that he was lucky to have coached him. This has further fuelled the news surrounding Dembele joining Chelsea.

He’s a very good player, and I am very fortunate to have trained him in my time at Dortmund. It was only one year, it should have been longer, but I needed to leave and he decided to leave,” the German coach said.

We are not in close contact, we have met here and there because of his duties for the French national team when I was in Paris. “

We exchanged some messages. I have absolutely no idea why he is in this situation, I don’t know the details, so it’s better not to talk.”

Blues could miss out on Frenkie De Jong as Bayern Munich want him in January

Chelsea News: The Blues have been interested in signing Barcelona’s midfielder, Frenkie de Jong. But as per the latest reports, Bayern Munich are looking to swoop in for the midfielder in January.

Barcelona are looking to rebuild their squad under Xavi Hernandez in the summer. But the lack of funds has hampered the debt-ridden club. Owing to this, they may release a few “high-earners” from their squad in 2022.

As per reports, one of Europe’s most talented midfielders, Frenkie de Jong, is also on this list. Barcelona believe that they can get more than €50 million for the Dutch midfielder. Hence, this would help them in rebuilding their squad.

Owing to this, the Spanish giants have listed the midfielder in their transfer list. As of now, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are said to be interested in signing the midfielder.

Bayern Munich to fight Chelsea for Frenkie de Jong’s signature

Chelsea News: Blues could miss out on Frenkie De Jong as Bayern Munich want him in January

As per talksport, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have made contact with Barcelona for the services of the Dutchman. Hence, this could be a deal-breaker for Chelsea.

Bayern Munich reportedly want to sign the midfielder in January itself. But they wouldn’t mind waiting until the summer if they cannot agree to personal terms with the club and the player in the next few days.

Chelsea themselves have been interested in Frenkie de Jong but are yet to make a contract with Barcelona yet. The Blues reportedly value the midfielder at €33 million. But this is quite less than Barcelona’s valuation.

As per the report, FC Barcelona reportedly value Frenkie de Jong at €58 million. Hence, they are not looking to sell him for anything less, considering the financial condition of the club as of now.

Bayern Munich reportedly see Frenkie de Jong as a long-term option in their midfield. Hence, they are looking to pay around €50 million to get the midfielder themselves. As of the time of writing, no official bid has been made for the player.

De Jong’s legacy at FC Barcelona

The Dutchman joined Barcelona after leading Ajax to the UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2019. Since joining FC Barcelona, Frenkie de Jong has made 118 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals.

De Jong is still one of the first-choice players in Barcelona’s midfield even though the club are ready to sell him. The Dutchman has made 17 LaLiga appearances and has also started all 6 UEFA Champions League group stage games for the club.

The Copa Del Rey 2020/21 winner has been one of the standout players for Ajax and Barcelona in recent years. Hence, he would be worth every penny if Bayern Munich or Chelsea manage to complete the signing in the coming days.
