Barcelona boost as insight provided into Araujo’s upcoming absence

Barcelona boost as insight provided into Ronald Araujo’s upcoming absence

Spanish giants FC Barcelona have been afforded some altogether timely positive news on the personnel front on Thursday evening.

Jutgla completes the turnaround

Xavi Hernandez’s men were back in action a little over 24 hours ago.

After managing to navigate a Covid-19 crisis to eventually emerge on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline at Mallorca over the weekend, the Blaugrana this time made the trip to Andalusia, for a Copa del Rey showdown with minnows Linares Deportivo.

And, when all was said and done on Wednesday, Barca, once more, managed to get the job done.

A tense 90 minutes, during which Linares actually took the lead in proceedings, ultimately saw the visitors do enough to turn things around, en route to a 2-1 triumph.

Ousmane Dembele levelled things up shortly after the hour mark, before the increasingly prominent Ferran Jutgla got in on the act five minutes later, to keep Barcelona’s Copa hopes alive.

Aruajo latest

Amid an otherwise positive night’s work for Barca on Wednesday, however, the Catalan heavyweights were also dealt something of a blow.

This came on the personnel front when, ahead of the 2nd-half of action getting underway, key defender Ronald Araujo failed to emerge from the tunnel, owing to what was later revealed to be a wrist problem.

Speculation, in turn, quickly spread, amid suggestions that Araujo could be sidelined for as long as a month, after fracturing his wrist.

Such concerns, however, have since been put to bed.

As per a report from the reliable Jordi Grau of Cat Radio, ‘if all goes well’ in the operating room on Friday morning, Araujo will likely face a spell of just ten days on the sidelines.

Denis Zakaria set to hand Arsenal & Aston Villa potential boost in midfielder hunt

Denis Zakaria set to hand Arsenal & Aston Villa potential boost in midfielder hunt

A transfer update surrounding Juventus that has emerged on Saturday could be great news for two Premier League clubs.

The Premier League clubs in question are Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Arsenal, for their part, had been linked with Juventus’ Arthur Melo for much of the January window, but that deal looked to have collapsed.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, are said to want to sign Rodrigo Bentancur from the Turin-based outfit:

Aston Villa & Arsenal boost?

Now, Juventus are reportedly needing to get rid of one of these two players soon.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have submitted an opening proposal to sign Denis Zakaria immediately, but the Italians need at least one midfielder to leave in the next hours.

Romano goes on to name Arthur and Bentancur as the players that could leave right now.

Given the winter window slams shut on Monday, Juventus seemingly need to act fast to get a midfielder or two out.

And with Arsenal having already been in contact over Arthur, it would make sense that Juve let him depart to the Gunners, instead of waiting for another team to come in for the Brazilian.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney issues apology after explicit video emerges

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has issued an apology after a video of himself emerged on social media on Friday.

The video in question saw the striker partying in Dubai. Whilst doing so, Toney was recorded saying ‘F**k Brentford’.

After the video emerged, it was reported that Brentford were investigating the matter:

Now, on Saturday morning, Toney has taken to social media to issue a statement: “I am aware of a video of me that was published on social media today, taken in Dubai where I have been on holiday during the winter break. In it, I used language that was unacceptable.

“The video was cut short and edited, but I have to accept the impact this has had and I realise I should not have put myself in that position.

“I have explained to the gaffer what happened and apologised to him but I also want to apologise to all Brentford fans.

“I respect the way you all support the team and I have to say how much I love playing for the club and you.

“I’ll be back training next week, working hard to score more goals to win us more for the rest of the season.”

Will Ivan Toney be dropped for Brentford?

Brentford’s next clash after the winter break is an FA Cup 4th round tie vs Everton.

The Bees then face Manchester City in a Premier League match on Wednesday the 9th.

Given the importance of Ivan Toney to this Brentford team, it will be interesting to see if Thomas Frank opts to drop the striker as punishment for the video.

Burnley dealt major transfer blow as Dinamo reach Mislav Orsic decision

Burnley have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Croatian midfielder Mislav Orsic in the dying embers of the January transfer window.

It was widely reported that Sean Dyche’s side had agreed a deal worth around 7 million for the 19 year 0ld winger, who is best known in England for his hat-trick that knocked Tottenham out of the Europa League last campaign.

However, any deal now seems to be completely off.

In a statement on their official website, the Croatian side revealed that he would in fact be staying with Dinamo for the upcoming season.

‘In recent days, great interest of the public and fans has caused the possible transfer of player Mislav Oršić to the English club Burnley. Following this topic, GNK Dinamo informs the public that the decision has been made that Mislav Oršić will remain a Dinamo player and we are looking forward to participating in the continuation of the season together with his teammates and contributing to achieving the goal of winning a new Croatian title.’

And it has since been revealed that the deal collapsed, despite being almost done, because the player had ‘a change of heart’ at the eleventh hour.

Weghorst still inbound?

In better news, it seems as though a deal for 6 foot 6 inch tall striker Wout Wegh0rst is still progressing, with Wolfsburg open to the sale of their 29 year old forward.

The Dutchman, who is on a rare barren spell having netted just 4 times this season, will be more than a suitable replacement for Chris Wood, who has since joined Newcastle.
