Arsenal News: Mohamed Elneny’s performance against Chelsea on Wednesday night backed up Arsene Wenger’s favorable evaluation of the Egyptian.

As a companion to Granit Xhaka at the base of midfield, the Arsenal midfielder led his team to a much-needed 4-2 triumph at Stamford Bridge. Thomas Partey is the manager’s choice when he is fit. However, in his absence, Elneny stepped up for the Gunners.

The Egyptian hasn’t played much football under Mikel Arteta. This was only his second game in the Premier League on Wednesday night. The defensive midfielder has only made 11 appearances in all competitions and is out of contract this summer.

Elneny was acquired by Arsenal during Wenger’s tenure, with the midfielder joining from Basel in 2016. The 29-year-old has gone out on loan in the past in pursuit of more game time, but after the 4-2 victory in west London, he backed up statements made by his previous management.

“Elneny is a very strong and active player,” Wenger previously told beIN Sports. Elneny is a tactically significant player who plays in a modern style and always gives his all for his side. He is pretty combative on the pitch, and what strikes me the most is how he protects his squad.”

“His contribution to the team is vital, but not in terms of goal output because he isn’t the kind to complete a goal.” But it’s because he’s been so supportive throughout the process. Elneny’s defensive style complements the team’s defense.”

Mikel Arteta was certain that players like Elneny, who have struggled for consistent minutes this season, would thrive if given the opportunity right immediately.

The Spaniard’s recent observations in training gave him confidence in their selection, showcasing the north London side’s determination.

What did Arteta say?

“If you look at the training session we had on Sunday after the defeat, if you look at Mo Elneny, Rob Holding, Nicolas Pepe, and how they trained, I believe that’s why we won,” he said.

“I told them before the game to have patience. Good things happen to good people and we have really good people in that dressing room.”

“That shows up when people aren’t involved in challenging situations, not when things are going well. They have performed well today because of how well they care for themselves and the team.”

The win against Chelsea has put Arsenal back in the top 4 race. They will face a battered and bruised Manchester United at home next in what could be a decider for Champions League qualification.

Mohamed Elneny has announced his pure delight that he has agreed a new contract with Arsenal

The Egyptian star has found game time hard to come by this season and has had to watch the games from the bench, but he has played a key role in the run in of the Premier League season

The injury to Thomas Partey has offered Elneny the chance to shine, and with reports suggesting that Mikel Arteta will not want to lose many more players in the transfer window, Elneny was ready to sign a new deal with the Gunners

And soon after the season has finished – Arsenal have come out and announced that Elneny has agreed a new contract at the Emirates – although they have not divulged the duration of the contract signed.

“Midfielder Mohamed [Elneny] is extending his stay with us,” Arsenal revealed on their official website. “Elneny has been a key member of the squad since joining us from Basel in 2016. He’s made 147 appearances, scoring five goals and contributing 10 assists.”

Here is what Elneny said:

“I feel like when you play in one of the biggest teams in the world and you have an amazing family and the fans are really amazing as well – they make me feel special,” Elneny told the same portal.

“You feel like you are special for this club and this club is special for you. Of course, I want to stay here until I finish my career actually.”

“I needed to hear what he’s thinking about me and I always say to him, ‘Mikel, I really appreciate what you’ve done for me.’

“Because with Mikel I play more than I was before. I said to him, ‘Mikel, if you say to me that you want me to stay or you want me to leave, I’m going to do whatever you want.’

“Then the way he spoke about me is something that really makes me emotional.

“It was really good for me to hear it from Mikel, about the way I play and the way I’m happy with him and being positive. It’s incredible for me to feel this way from Mikel, from the club, and from Edu. I’m really happy.”

Edu hold talks with Osimhen about Arsenal move

Arsenal have begun talks to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to the latest reports in the media today

It is no secret that despite all the attacking quality that Mikel Arteta currently has in his squad, Arsenal are lacking a proven striker that will bang in the goals on a regular basis

Alexandre Lacazette has been putting in the impressive performances, that is true, but the Frenchman will never be, and never has been, a striker that is capable of netting 30-goals a season.

That means that Mikel Arteta will need to delve into that transfer kitty and add a striker to the squad, which has led to reports in the media which have claimed that Osimhen is a player that the club are very much interested in signing.

Recent reports in the media have claimed that the Napoli forward wants a move to the Emirates this summer, as it is his dream to play for the Arsenal – but a move wont come cheap for the club

It has been claimed that Napoli will demand a fee over £69 million for the striker – but that is not stopping Arsenal and GOAL have claimed that the Gunners have already started making their moves for the player

They claim Arsenal’s technical director Edu has held talks with the striker’s agent in London – but believe that the fee will be an issue as Napoli are notoriously difficult to agree terms with

But why not make a move for a player that is already proven in the Premier League rather than sign a striker that would need time to adapt to the pace – quality and toughness of the English game?
