Anthony Martial being monitored by desperate Newcastle United – Man United News And Transfer News

Published

on

Manchester United star Anthony Martial is reportedly on Newcastle United’s radar this January transfer window.

The news comes following Callum Wilson’s injury, with Eddie Howe seemingly desperate to find a source for goals to replace him.

“Re Anthony Martial & NUFC… Man Utd say reluctant to let players go (for now) because of Covid, but I’m told Newcastle are monitoring situation. Martial perhaps wasn’t type high on list pre January, but Wilson injury has changed thinking & increased urgency. One to watch.”

Martial’s agent had previously announced that his client hopes to leave the club, with Ralf Rangnick confirming the news and subsequently dropping the player.

The German boss saw no need to hand minutes to the talented Frenchman following his publicly announced desire to switch sides.

Rangnick was clearly annoyed by the manner in which Martial went about his business, as the manager was not informed prior to the press.

The former AS Monaco man is said to want a change in his career following seven years at Manchester United.

Martial is a fan-favourite but there has never been a time where his departure would disappoint fans the least.

If anything, supporters would encourage the sale if it meant bringing in a much-needed defensive-midfielder instead.

Martial’s stock has never been lower and it’s safe to say United have strength in depth in their forward positions and can cope with his absence.

However, despite Newcastle’s riches, Howe was keen to invest his budget on other positions and they will likely only make an approach to United if they’re absolutely desperate.

“I Want to Score More Goals”, Out of Favour Striker Martial Claims

Manchester United News: Anthony Martial’s career at Manchester United started with so much promise, but it never reached the promised land. The former Monaco man finally made a loan move to Sevilla for the next five months.

The French international joined United from Monaco in 2015 in a move worth an initial £36million. However, the 26-year-old had dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford due to new signings and his own form and fitness.

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes were the first two names from the squad who sent supportive messages to the 26-year-old following the move to Spain. The former Golden Boy winner will have a key role to play in Sevilla’s title battle this season.

However, the main question that remains is? Where will Martial be going to play next season? The number 22 for Sevilla talked about it in his first interview since moving to Spain.

Manchester United News: What does Martial have to say?

Manchester United News: I want to score more goals claims Anthony Martial.

“I have joined for five months but you never know what the future holds. It’s just not money, I want to play and enjoy the game more. That’s the biggest motivation and that’s why I decided to join this club.”

The best thing I can do is to showcase my abilities and play more on the field. I believe I have chosen the perfect place to do that.

“Team’s interest is most important to me. I want to help this team in the next five months with my goals and assists. The quality of the players in the squad is amazing, and I want to help the team with my experience going forward.”

Martial has made over 250 appearances for the club since joining. However, he was struggling to make a mark in the last 18 months at Old Trafford. His case was not helped by United’s signing of Ronaldo and Sancho.

Rangnick’s misunderstanding with the player also played a crucial role in his departure, according to the reports. The German is expected to move into a consultancy role as United brings in a new permanent manager in the summer.

Lopetegui on the shortlist for United’s managerial role?

If reports are to be believed, Sevilla manager Lopetegui is one of the managers on United’s reported four-man shortlist. The other names include the likes of Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, and Luis Enrique.

This might provide a perfect chance for Lopetegui to have a close look at the French international. Many pundits believe that the former Monaco teenager has a lot of talent but lacks the mentality to be a superstar.

Lopetegui joined Sevilla in 2019 and has been instrumental in their progress. The Spaniard was in the dugout when they beat United in 2019/20 en route to their sixth Europa league title.

The inconsistent signed a contract till 2024. Even in this loan move, Sevilla does not hold a purchase option, and that suggests that he can be a Manchester United player in the next season.

Manchester United should not send Donny van de Beek on loan this month – Man United News And Transfer News

Can Manchester United really afford to lose Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek this month?

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has said in various press conferences that United’s first team squad is too big. This has led to players becoming unsettled due to a lack of game time.

Martial has already completed a loan move to Sevilla, Lingard is reportedly close to a deal with Newcastle (although recent reports suggest the deal has hit snags) and Van de Beek is closing in on a straight loan switch to Crystal Palace.

It is true that none of the three stars are regular first team starters. They have amassed just 370 minutes of Premier League football between them so far this season – the equivalent of just 1.37 games each.

The Frenchman and Dutchman will get game time and could come back rejuvenated and/or increase their transfer values. United will be able to recoup at least something for Lingard before his contract ends in June.

So what is the problem? Especially when we consider that Paul Pogba, another attacking midfielder, is back in training to supplement the ranks and Rangnick has indicated that Hannibal Mejbri will be promoted to the first team squad upon his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The case of Martial is probably the simplest. There should be plenty of cover left at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Elanga and, at a pinch, Pogba, all able to play left wing and Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Rashford and Greenwood all able to play up top.

Amad is another option although he, too, is expected to be loaned out.

Many of the same group, plus Bruno Fernandes, Juan Mata and Hannibal cover the positions that Lingard would normally occupy.

But loaning Van de Beek seems the most risky because of his ability to play in a holding midifield role.

Generally considered to be more effective as an attacking midfielder, the 24-year-old himself has said he feels at his most confident playing as a number six.

There is some value to allowing the player Premier League game time elsewhere. But the fact is that United only have three other players covering that position – Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic.

Injuries, suspensions or a loss of form to any two of those three would surely mean that the Dutchman would be needed.

Rangnick has said he has advised Van de Beek to stay and does not want him to leave. He is no doubt fully aware that it leaves United bare. However, if the club and player are both adamant that he makes the move, it is unclear whether the manager has the power to veto the deal.

It may be that a clause is inserted in any loan deal agreed that allows United to recall the star if needed, but this is not ideal as he will have been used to training at a different club under a different manager and so could find it difficult to simply slot back in.

From Manchester United’s footballing perspective, there seems to be little to gain by loaning Van de Beek out at this stage.

Manchester United star hints at potential transfer

Manchester United star Anthony Martial refused to rule out a permanent transfer to Sevilla, after recently completing a temporary move.

The talented Frenchman publicly announced his desire to leave this month in search of first-team minutes and Ralf Rangnick finally succumbed to his wish.

Martial said: “My loan move to Sevilla is valid for next five months, end of the season… but you never know what happens in the future. We’ll see.

“I wanted to join Sevilla because of Monchi and Lopetegui. I’m here to play and show what I can do.”

Rangnick explained to United supporters that he feels the club shouldn’t have to beg or convince players to stay.

The German boss has been very frank in his press conferences and has moved quickly to find out who’s committed and who isn’t.

Rangnick also insisted players can’t just ask to leave and expect a deal to happen as it is more complicated than that.

The former RB Leipzig man stated that all three parties (both clubs and the player) have to agree on the finances involved for a successful transfer.

Otherwise, players will have to accept that their moves won’t materialise regardless of their desires.

Sevilla agreed to cover all of Martial’s wages and that is what saw a breakthrough happen but it seems he’s left the door open for a permanent transfer to happen.
