A look into Manchester United’s struggles in front of goal

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick will not be pleased to see one of the most damning stats of his reign so far.
The German boss has put in a lot of work behind the scenes but results have failed him of late.
Man United have scored two or more in a game three times in Rangnick’s 12 matches in charge. In Solskjaer’s last 12 (as bad as they were) it was six times. Defensively there’s no comparison (9 conceded to 24 under OGS) but lack of goals is an issue. Four 1-1 draws under Rangnick.

It’s clear to see that either United players can attack brilliantly but concede horribly or attack woefully but concede little.
Unfortunately it’s this inability to get a balance that has plagued the club all season long.
One of the first things Rangnick said in his press conference was the need to find that balance and control games in that manner.

The defensive improvement under Rangnick has come at the cost of attacking decline.
However, there have been signs that this could change soon. After all, his players are now creating enough chances but just haven’t been clinical yet.
To make matters worse, the Red Devils only seem capable of playing well in 30-45 minutes shifts rather than the full 90.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s worst goal drought in a decade hasn’t helped either, though the blame isn’t solely on him.
It seems whenever a problem is solved at Manchester United, a new one pops up.
Initially it was incompetent defending. Rangnick solved that then came lack of control.
He solved that to an extent, it’s just up to the players to maintain it for longer which will come naturally over time.
After that came a lack of creating chances. Rangnick resolved that by working on attacking drills over the recent break.
Now it’s a lack of finishing and hopefully that floodgate will open soon.

Wayne Rooney’s dream is to one day manage Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed his dream to manage the club one day in the future.
The current Derby County manager is struggling in a relegation battle in the Championship.
However, it has been fairly impressive to watch his team’s determination to stay up after the huge points-deduction given to them earlier on in the season.
The former striker retired last year to become permanent manager of the club after a short spell as player-interim head coach.
The Sun reports that the 36-year-old has a dream to become a future Man United manager.
This comes after turning down Everton’s approach to have an interview for the vacant manager position, which Frank Lampard later took.
In a recent interview, Rooney admitted why he turned down the approach to make the step up into the Premier League.
“The whole reason in me going into management is Manchester United. I got offered the job interview for the Everton job.”
“I want to be Manchester United manager. I know I am not ready now but I have to plan everything I do to make sure one day it will happen.”
United’s greatest ever goalscoring machine becoming manager of the club one day would be a dream for many fans who grew up watching Rooney.
Some fans are already impressed with his contribution to the Derby team this season after picking up important points against tough sides.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are set to appoint their next permanent manager in the upcoming weeks after Ralf Rangnick’s six-month stay comes to an end in June.
Rooney will be hoping his chance will come to take on the important role the next time a managerial vacancy opens at the club.
Gary Neville
Gary Neville: Manchester United players and staff are tone deaf – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has seemingly taken a swipe at the club’s players and staff.
The former defender took issue with how some of the players and staff, including Ralf Rangnick, have taken time off during the international break.
I remember a time when United players , managers , executives wouldn’t be seen in their local Italian after a draw at home let alone getting knocked out of Europe. This last week we’ve seen a global tour of F1 , Concerts, Cricket and UFC events. This lot are Tone Deaf!

Naturally fans did not respond well to Neville’s Tweet, as can be seen by some of the replies.
Supporters haven’t really complained of how some of the players of staff were using their time off.
After all, it’s pretty normal these days for footballers to jet off on mini-breaks if they’re not selected for their international teams.
Some coaches prefer to use the international break to work with their players while others prefer to give them some much-needed rest.
Clearly Rangnick preferred the latter and perhaps what was a defining factor in his decision was the high number of players who won’t be in training due to international selection.
United’s squad are full of key internationals so perhaps training would be either a little light or just not as intense.
Other fans pointed out that had social media existed during Neville’s playing days then perhaps he would’ve been ‘caught’ doing the ‘wrong’ thing more often.
Of course, it’s not necessarily a good look when players or staff are on mini-holidays after the underperforming season so far but no one is truly bothered by it.
What’s more important to fans is results on the pitch and hopefully Rangnick’s mini-break will deliver that when the team returns.
Atletico Madrid
Gary Neville warns Manchester United fans of more doom and gloom – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United great Gary Neville has provided fans with his thoughts on Tuesday evening’s defeat to Atletico Madrid.
The former defender has insisted there was no surprise in United losing 1-0 despite being at home in a high-stakes Champions League game.
No surprise last night. Any decent team , with organisation and fight are likely to beat this United team. It’s why I couldn’t get excited after Spurs last Saturday because that Spurs performance would will get you beat v a good team. A long road in to the end of May!
— Gary Neville (@GNev2) March 16, 2022
I wasn’t ! I was disappointed with the performance. It wasn’t good enough and it maybe conned them into thinking that it would be good enough v Athletico Madrid! https://t.co/vvtfPOirfb
— Gary Neville (@GNev2) March 16, 2022
Ralf Rangnick could not oversee a positive result despite choosing a strong eleven and seemingly getting the tactics right.
The Red Devils particularly played well in the first half but unfortunately, as has been the story this season, failed to capitalise on their good moments.
Atletico completed their task perfectly and hit Manchester United on the counter, just sa many had predicted they would do.
Neville’s statement that any decent team with organisation and fight will beat United is not an outlandish statement.
It’s one that will resonate with supporters who feel this team lacks creativity and aggression regardless of the opposition.
The difference perhaps is that fans were ecstatic after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 as it seemed to indicate both the aforementioned attributes.
Neville certainly doesn’t seem to be optimimistic and his words will likely just depress any supporters who still had hope of a good season.
United appear on target to end the season in the Europa League qualification spots barring a collapse from the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, or Tottenham.
