Tottenham open talks with Man United outcast for possible summer move

Tottenham sound out Manchester United outcast in wake of 15million pound bid rejected for Dutch winger

Tottenham open discussions with Lingard

Manchester United outcast and England international midfielder Jesse Lingard is the subject of interest from Antonio Conte’s Tottenham as Spurs look to add further depth and quality under the Italian headmaster.

According to Football.London’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold, the north London outfit made contact with Lingard’s camp with a view of bringing him to the English capital in the summer when his contract runs down at Old Trafford at the end of the current 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

Also mentioned was the possibility of the club seeking out a move during the current January window should the Red Devils give the green light on a sanctioned sale to a rival in the hunt for top for, but BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone provided additional clarity on Lingard’s position, stating that the United academy graduate is not keen on a winter exit.

His frustration justifiably continues, however, after former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær promised the Warrington-native chances this season but failed to deliver; a trend that now continues under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

All told, Lingard has logged just 272-minutes of action across appearing in four different competitions for United while being given the nod in the matchday XI on only two occasions, none of which came in the Premier League.

Ajax bid for Bergwijn has knock-on effects in Traoré interest

Legendary Dutch outfit Ajax Amsterdam is tracking Spurs winger Steven Bergwijn in a possible move for the former PSV Eindhoven standout that would see him return to the Netherlands after two underwhelming years in north London.

But Tottenham rejected the initial £15million offer from de Godenzonen (also according to Alasdair Gold in the report linked above) despite his struggle to secure first-choice status under Conte since the Italian’s arrival due to regular injury concerns.

Spurs would hope to receive a larger fee for Bergwijn given the price they paid (£27million) to secure his services from PSV, and though every Spurs manager he has served under has spoken highly of him, his potential departure could open the door for Tottenham to continue their hunt for Wolves winger Adama Traoré.

The club has been linked with interest in the Spanish international and La Masia graduate since Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espírito Santo both arrived in the capital this summer, and that interest persists given Paratici’s long-standing interest in the 25-year-old.

Given the struggles of current right-sided wing-back options Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty, it is thought that Traoré would be re-tasked in a wing-back role rather than utilized as a wide forward under Conte.

But Traoré would still offer tactical options for the former Inter Milan and Chelsea manager, capable of being deployed on either flank further forward or possibly transitioned as mentioned, he could serve as a quality utility player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium moving forward.

Arsenal falling away from move for Juventus midfielder Arthur amid January frustrations

Arsenal falling away from move for Juventus midfielder Arthur amid January frustrations

The January window continues to frustrate many in the Arsenal fanbase and, presumably, also the club hierarchy as a deal for Juventus midfielder Arthur could now be off.

As first reported by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the situation between all parties had not changed.

Arsenal are only prepared to commit to a six-month loan according to Romano but La Vecchia Signora prefers an 18-month deal which will include 100% of the Brazilian’s salary guaranteed by the Gunners.

David Ornstein shed additional light on the situation soon after for The Athletic. According to his information, Arsenal technical director Edu eventually agreed to an 18-month loan deal which would include a buy option for a fee in the region of €40million; a structure that Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini was happy to agree to.

But that deal and its structure have since been vetoed by the Arsenal hierarchy, in other words, one of Richard Garlick, Josh Kroenke, and Stan Kroenke. If another more suitable agreement cannot be struck, the club could well fail in its attempt to provide Mikel Arteta with vital midfield reinforcements before the January window closes.

Arsenal turn to fresh names after transfer setbacks

With six days left in the January window, Arsenal is in need of reinforcement not just in the center of the park but also in the number 9 role as the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, and Eddie Nketiah seem set in stone.

Now, the club could be set to turn to SSC Napoli striker Victor Osimhen after missing out on number-one target Dušan Vlahović who looks set to complete his expected move to Serie A giants Juventus.

Additionally, the club’s link with interest in Olympique Lyonnais midfield standout Bruno Guimarães also looks to be erased after reports suggest the Brazilian international is on course to make a shock move to cash-loaded Newcastle.

As such, Arsenal may well turn to Aston Villa holding midfielder Douglas Luiz in the wake of the Villains thus far not offering a contract extension at Villa Park.

While it may not be entirely evident what player is now the prime January target for the Gunners, players are certainly required if Arteta is to manufacture a proper run at the top four.

Watford complete first signing under new manager Roy Hodgson

Watford have completed their fourth signing of the January transfer window, and their first under new manager Roy Hodgson, who was announced as taking over from Claudio Ranieri on Tuesday.

This comes in the shape of Bourdeaux winger Samuel Kalu, who has joined the Hornets on a deal until 2025 for an undisclosed fee.

The Nigerian winger follows Hassane Kamara in making the move from Ligue 1 to Watford this January, while the club have also added Samir and Eyo Kayembe to their ranks in a busy January window that has been overseen by those in the club hierarchy.

A Watford statement read:

‘Watford FC is delighted to announce the signing of Nigerian international winger Samuel Kalu on a deal until June 2025 from French club FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

The fourth new signing of the January window, Kalu joins full-back Hassane Kamara, central defender Samir and midfielder Edo Kayembe at Vicarage Road.

The 24-year-old signs for the Hornets following three-and-a-half successful years in France’s top tier, where he scored nine goals.

Capable of playing on either flank, Kalu is a versatile option in a competitive squad, typically operating on the right wing.

The quick-footed attacker first played for Slovakian side AS Trenčín after moving to Europe from his native Nigeria, and earned a switch to Belgian giants KAA Gent in 2017 following impressive performances. He then joined Bordeaux in August 2018, where he has since made 86 appearances for Les Girondins.’

What next for Watford?

Watford still face a race to stay in the top flight, currently sitting in the relegation zone and set to compete with newly minted Newcastle United to avoid the drop.

Onto their third manager of the season already, it needs to be a case of third time lucky to prevent them slipping into the Championship.

Newcastle offer second bid of 20 million euros for full-back as Armando Broja bid mooted

Newcastle continue to throw money around as they look to add late additions to their squad in an attempt to stave off the drop from the Premier League.

Now, according to reports coming out of France, they are looking to double down on the agreement reached with Bruno Guimaraes by offering 20 million euros for Bayer Leverkusen left-back Mitchell Bakker.

This comes courtesy of French outlet L’Equipe, who claim that a bid was sent on Monday, and that representatives are already in Newcastle trying to make a deal happen.

Should that deal and the move for Guimaraes take shape, it could take Newcastle’s spending to over the 80 million mark, across 4 additions.

It may not end there, however.

Bid for Armando Broja mooted

In their bid to balance experienced additions with “value for money”, more youthful options. One of those, according to reports in Italy, is Chelsea loanee Armando Broja. The Albanian forward has impressed during his stint at Southampton so far this season, scoring 5 times in 18 Premier League outings thus far.

And, according to Fabrizio Romano, Southampton are ready to launch a 25 million pound bid for his services.

However, as per TuttoMercato, they will be outbid by the newly-wealthy Newcastle United, with the Magpies ready to table a bid worth 40 million euros (33.3 million pounds) this window, in the hope of stealing a march on other potential suitors.

As of right now, however, Chelsea remain unsure as to whether he will be allowed to depart Stamford Bridge in the summer.
