SHE’S A DEVA, well drawn in stall 1, has switched from synthetics to grass on four previous occasions, running 4^th at 25-1 and 9-1, second at 10-1 and winning at 14-1. She can reward each-way support again.

DIAMOND RANGER (system – George Boughey, last-time out winners, non-handicaps)

George Boughey has a fine record with last-time out winners, especially those running in non-handicaps. Sixteen of the 49 qualifiers have won for a profit of £34.62. Those who ran in the past three weeks have an 11 from 27 record for a profit of £47.26. DIAMOND RANGER, a winner at Catterick on his racecourse debut 16 days ago, can follow up.

WARWICK 7.35

GO AS YOU PLEASE & GULLIVER COLLONGES (systems – J P McManus-owned low-grade handicappers in Britain)

Leading owner J P McManus is best known for winners at the big spring festivals but he also does well in Class 5 handicaps over jumps in Britain. This century, his record is 110 winners from 499 runners (22% strike-rate) for a profit of £146.37 to a £1 level stake at SP. He has two runners in this 2m4f handicap chase – GULLIVER COLLONGES and GO AS YOU PLEASE. I’m backing both but am especially interested in the last-named, whose Warwick record reads 211 (2-3), improving to 11 (2-2) over fences only.

Pitched straight into handicap company off the back of a taking chase debut last time out, Ultimate Getaway hails from a horse racing yard that makes hay at this time of year. Although an eight-year-old, he is open to any amount of further progress in this sphere. That is why this Getaway gelding is our horse racing NAP today.

He also shaped better on his second start back in this sphere when fourth to Shewearsitwell over an inadequate trip at Killarney last time out. I’m not convinced that BLACKCURRENT deserves to be heading the market at 100-30 with Spreadex (15-18 on the spreads) in this 5f handicap, as he’s 0-9 on turf and looks set to get taken on for the lead, as he was when fifth (albeit a close-up fifth) at Musselburgh last time. He’s started as favourite (including joint/co) on five occasions and has lost every single time and he’s 0-9 when starting at odds of 4-1 or shorter. I’ve sold in the 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might prefer to side with SHE’S A DEVA who will appreciate the return to turf.

Recommendation: Oppose BLACKCURRENT in Beverley 1.40

NEWTON ABBOT 3.00

Worcester’s fences are easy to jump, with only about 4% of runners falling or unseating since the beginning of 2016, and handicap chase form from that venue doesn’t travel well. Worcester handicap chase winners are only 21 from 129 in that period (16% strike-rate) when bidding to follow up in another handicap chase at a different venue and backing them blind would have returned a loss of £50.83 to a £1 level stake at SP (-39.4% on turnover). The expected number of winners was 26.63 and there could be some value in opposing ARIZONA GLORY in this 2m5f novices’ handicap. The Evan Williams-trained six-year-old won easily from a 33-1 shot over 2m at Worcester last time but both came from well off the pace and it was probably a case of the front-runners going off too quick. The runner-up and the patiently-ridden fifth were both well held on their next starts at odds of 100-30 and 7-2 and there’s a good chance that Arizona Glory was flattered. The step back up in trip is not sure to suit and I’m selling him in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market, despite him running on another track with relatively easy fences.

Recommendation: Oppose ARIZONA GLORY in Newton Abbot 3.00
