Pair of ‘greedy’ Man United stars slated after Aston Villa: ‘Play like they hate each other’

Two members of Manchester United’s squad have been singled out for heavy criticism this evening, on the back of the club’s meeting with Aston Villa.

McTominay makes the difference

Ralf Rangnick’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.

In the last of the fixtures in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, the Red Devils welcomed the aforementioned Aston Villa to Old Trafford, eyeing a return to winning ways on the back of a concerning defeat to Wolves last time out.

And, to their credit, when all was said and done, secure a bounce-back result is precisely what United managed.

A solitary goal, nodded home by Scott McTominay inside ten minutes, ultimately proved enough to guide the evening’s hosts beyond Steven Gerrard’s Villans, and into the 4th round of the FA Cup:

‘Convinced they hate each other’

On the back of a night’s work which saw their side keep hopes of securing a long overdue piece of silverware alive, the assumption would of course therefore be that the Manchester United faithful would be in positive mood post-match.

This, however, has in fact since proven far from the case.

In truth, Rangnick’s troops were outplayed across lengthy stretches this evening, with Aston Villa hugely unlucky to have come away from Old Trafford on the wrong end of the eventual result.

A whole host of the Red Devils’ underperforming stars, in turn, have been singled out for criticism, with the likes of Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Fred all targeted.

None, however, have been more widely slated than attacking pair Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

This comes owing to what has been widely described as greediness on the part of the English internationals in front of goal, after both Rashford and Greenwood opted against teeing the other up when in promising positions over the course of the 90 minutes.

Some have even gone as far as to suggest that the attacking partners in crime play as though they ‘hate each other’, with just some of the highlights from across social media showcased below:

Arsenal offered Real Madrid forward on loan as Serie A giants bid for Vlahovic

Arsenal offered Real Madrid forward on loan as Serie A giants bid for Vlahovic

Arsenal have been offered the opportunity to take Real Madrid striker Luca Jovic on loan, according to multiple sources.

The Gunners have been chasing a deal for Dusan Vlahovic for much of January, but always knew that convincing the player to join the club would be tough, and so it has proved.

Now, it seems as though Italian giants Juventus have entered the race for the Fiorentina striker, and as per the reliable Romeo Agresti of Goal.com, the Old Lady will be making a bid for Vlahovic imminently.

As a result, Arsenal have had to turn their attentions elsewhere, and one of those options is the possibility of taking Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic on loan for the remainder of the season.

It would be the third successive season that the Gunners have taken a Los Blancos fringe option on a temporary deal, with both Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard having trodden the same path.

Does a move for Jovic make sense?

Mikel Arteta and co. are in desperate need of a striker, especially if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to be frozen out.

And while Jovic has been underwhelming in the Spanish capital, he impressed while at Frankfurt, netting 27 goals in 48 outings in the 2018/19 season, which in turn forced Real Madrid to splash out 57 million pounds on what they thought was the next big thing.

Now, however, Jovic has been firmly behind Benzema in the pecking order, and has netted just once in 18 La Liga appearances this campaign (although these appearances only amount to 240 minutes).

A move away to rekindle his career makes sense then, especially with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland rumoured to be joining Los Blancos in the summer. For Arsenal, it would be a low-cost option should they continue to fail landing their top targets, meaning that it could be an option we won’t see explored until late in the window.

However, it wouldn’t be the worst idea.

European clubs on red alert as Bayern star confirms summer departure

European clubs on red alert as Bayern star confirms summer departure

Reports today have put top clubs around Europe on red alert, as yet another star has effectively confirmed that he will be leaving Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer.

Much like Chelsea pair Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, Niklas Sule has now informed Bayern chiefs that he intends to leave the club at the end of his contract in June, adding yet another top defender onto the transfer market.

Sule, now 26-years-old, has made over 150 appearances for the German giants, including 18 in the Bundesliga this season, but is clearly keen on a fresh challenge.

Could we see a German swap?

Chelsea have been linked with Niklas Sule in the past, while Bayern Munich are among those who have been pursuing a move for Rudiger this season.

As a result, we could see a possible situation where a player swap effectively takes place, without either side paying or receiving a transfer fee, while agents and players take the money instead in the form of commission, wages and signing on bonuses.

It is a situation that is becoming increasingly common, with Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba, Franck Kessie and Paulo Dybala among those out of contract in June, in addition to the aforementioned trio.

Meanwhile, Dusan Vlahovic is seemingly holding Fiorentina hostage with his contract ticking down, and offers apart from Arsenal yet to come in.

Until something is done about the excessive amount players and agents can make on high-profile transfers, it is a sequence that will continue to repeat.

Aston Villa expected to make move for Liverpool defender this week

Aston Villa expected to make move for Liverpool defender this week

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in Liverpool centre-back, Joe Gomez.

Gomez joined Liverpool in 2015 from Charlton but has fallen down the defensive pecking order of late.

The centre-back, now 24, appears to be Liverpool’s 4th choice centre-back option behind Vigil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate.

So far this term, Gomez has made just four Premier League appearances totalling 12 minutes of action.

And now, Football Insider are reporting that Aston Villa have not given up hope of prising Joe Gomez from Liverpool this month, with Steven Gerrard’s side expected to make another move for Gomez this week.

Gerrard is also said to be a huge admirer of Gomez, whilst FI claim that Liverpool are likely to offload one senior centre-back before the January window closes and though that was expected to be Nat Phillips, Gomez now seemingly has an uncertain future.

Aston Villa’s smart recruitment

Should Gomez indeed sign for Villa, it would likely cap off what has been a very solid transfer window to date.

The Midlands-based outfit have secured two senior signings so far this month in the form of Philippe Coutinho, on loan from Barcelona, and Lucas Digne on a permanent deal from Everton.

The pair have had an instant impact. Coutinho would score on his Villa debut, coming off the bench to net in their 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

Digne, meanwhile, provided a key assist over the weekend as Aston Villa saw off the Frenchman’s former club by one goal to nil:
