Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp speaks out over left-back battle at Anfield

Jürgen Klopp speaks out over Robertson vs Tsimikas battle at Liverpool

Klopp stands behind Robertson in left-back battle

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp weighed in on the battle at left-back taking place at Anfield this season between Scottish captain Andrew Robertson and Greek international Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Both players have performed to a high standard this season, but Tsimikas has pushed Robertson for his place harder than many maybe would have expected; including Klopp himself.

But, in quotes via Ben Dinnery, the German headmaster remained steadfast in his position that Robertson is unquestionably the first-choice option under his watch on the left of the Liverpool backline;

“[Tsimikas] is pushing but Robbo is Robbo. People forget how good he has been. Kostas is pushing him. I don’t doubt Robbo at all. We’re really happy with Kostas but Robbo is Robbo. An outstanding player.”

Tsimikas has featured ten times for Liverpool across all competitions this season, including two impressive European displays against both Atlético Madrid and FC Porto (both 2-0 wins), while he also completed all 90-minutes during the Reds’ 4-0 thrashing of Arsenal last weekend.

Despite still sitting as the second choice behind the former Hull City defender, Tsimikas is positive about his relationship with Robertson amid their positional rivalry.

Reds boss comments on his mentor coming to the Premier League

Jürgen Klopp is easily one of the top managers in European football; both inside England’s borders and on the continent. But he may not have risen to this status without the guidance and influence of soon-to-be Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Klopp is one of a cadre of German managers that have credited Rangnick as a mentor; others on that list include Chelsea tactician Thomas Tuchel and managerial golden boy Julian Nagelsmann.

But for Klopp, Liverpool, and the rest of the Premier League, the “Godfather of Gegenpressing” rocking up on English shores is hardly what the club hierarchy would have wanted.

Still, the Premier League looks set to benefit from the arrival of yet another brilliant tactical and developmental mind in the grand scope of football.

Why Roberto Martinez is “unlikely” to become the next Everton manager

Why Roberto Martinez is “unlikely” to become the next Everton manager

Everton part ways with Rafa Benitez

After six tumultuous months with Everton, forever unpopular boss Rafa Benitez has finally left his post.

The former Liverpool boss was always going to have a tough job convincing the Toffees that he was up to the job, and an awful run of results that has seen them lose 9 of their last 12 matches.

And while injuries have played a part, it was clearly an unacceptable set of results and performances under the Spaniard’s reign.

So, who could replace him?

Well, in a shock turn of events, they have made contact with former Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who is currently working as head coach of Belgium. It is thought that Everton would want him on an interim basis.

Why Martinez is unlikely

However, such a move is unlikely, according to Jason Burt of the Telegraph.

This comes as the Belgium FA refuse to let the Spaniard combine the two roles ahead of the upcoming 2022 World Cup.

Burt reports:

“Martinez has promised the Belgians that he will not quit being in charge of the national team with a World Cup to prepare for later this year.

The Spaniard had hoped that they would agree to a request from Everton for him to take over at the Premier League club but also to remain with Belgium until his contract expires at the end of this year.”

So, with Martinez off the table, who could Everton turn to?

Why Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette has rejected the chance to join Newcastle

Why Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette has rejected the chance to join Newcastle

Lacazette to leave Arsenal?

Alexandre Lacazette would join Arsenal from Lyon back in 2017.

The Frenchman has since featured on 190 occasions for the Gunners, scoring 70 and assisting 32 along the way.

During his time at the club, the now 30-year-old has proven himself to be a very useful asset for every manager he has worked under.

Yet, despite still being a key cog in Mikel Arteta’s side, Lacazette was expected to depart the Emirates this summer.

This comes with Lacazette currently out of contract in June, and reports last year claiming that the Gunners will not offer the striker a new deal.

Lacazette himself, meanwhile, stated in November his agent was starting to look at potential options and he would wait until January to see what is on offer:

“Of course, my agents are starting to look to the right and to the left. But not until January, I really want to focus myself on something. And then we will see what is on offer, if the challenges are interesting, if there are beautiful projects, how they are counting on me.”

Why Lacazette rejected Newcastle

One of the clubs linked with Lacazette has been Newcastle who are now, of course, backed by the SAPIF.

Now though, it appears the Frenchman has rejected the chance to join the Magpies.

Football 365, citing reports from Italy, write that Lacazette rejected the chance to join Newcastle over their position in the Premier League table.

Given Newcastle are currently sat 19th in the Premier League and have won just one league game all season, it is easy to see why big names such as Lacazette would be skeptical over a move this season?

Chelsea fans in plea as Hazard photo goes viral after Real Madrid’s Super Cup win

Chelsea fans send plea to club as photo of Eden Hazard goes viral after Real Madrid’s Super Cup triumph

Droves of Chelsea supporters have taken to social media, to call for their side to swoop for club legend and Real Madrid outcast Eden Hazard.

Modric amongst the goals

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real were of course back in action late last night.

After getting the better of Clasico rivals Barcelona to book their spot in the competition showpiece during the week, Los Blancos went head to head with Athletic Club, for the Supercopa de Espana title.

And, when all was said and done at the King Fahd Stadium, the fine campaign being enjoyed by the La Liga table-toppers only continued.

First, late in the first-half, Luka Modric rolled back the years courtesy of a superb finish from the edge of the area to put Real in front:

Then, on the other side of the interval, Karim Benzema put Ancelotti’s men out of sight, courtesy of a typically ruthless strike from 12 yards:

Despite Eder Militao’s late dismissal, Real, from here, held on to their two-goal advantage, to secure the 12th Super Cup in the club’s fabled history.

‘Bring him home’

As alluded to above, though, on the back of the final whistle sounding on Sunday, not all of a Blancos persuasion were exactly over the moon.

This comes with one member of Ancelotti’s squad in particular having actually gone viral, owing to his miserable expression post-match.

The player in question? Eden Hazard.

Belgian wide-man Hazard, after remaining glued to the bench throughout the Super Cup amid an increasingly frustrating stint in Madrid, could not have looked less interested during his side’s celebrations, and even opted to take his medal off in the game’s aftermath:

And fans of former club Chelsea were evidently hit hard by the images of their one-time star man, with the Blues faithful having since flooded to social media, to send a crystal clear message to those in charge of transfers at Stamford Bridge:
