Jesse Lingard must be moved on from Manchester United in this transfer window – Man United News And Transfer News

With the January transfer window now in full swing, the anticipated activity at Old Trafford has, as yet, failed to materialise.

A number of players were expected to leave this month, by transfer or by loan, in an effort to reduce the size of what manager Ralf Rangnick admitted is a bloated squad.

Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Dean Henderson, Amad Diallo, Anthony Elanga, Juan Mata and even Cristiano Ronaldo have been among those reported to be open, or keen, to be heading off for pastures new.

And while there has been some loan activity, with the likes of Ethan Laird moving from Swansea to Bournemouth and Axel Tuanzebe moving from Aston Villa to Napoli, nobody has left from the playing squad currently assembled and registered to play for United’s first team.

Admittedly, Pogba’s injury makes that a very difficult transfer to organise but the fact is that United have just 18 days left to try to sell both him and Lingard, or their contracts will simply run down and they will leave a free agents in June.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has indicated that he does not want Edinson Cavani, Dean Henderson or Donny van de Beek to leave as he sees them as valuable members of the squad.

Anthony Martial’s departure is fraught with complications because of his high salary and transfer value. He has reportedly turned down the idea of a move to Newcastle and United have turned down an offer from Sevilla to pay half his salary, leaving him in limbo.

United desperately need reinforcements in this window, especially in the defensive midfield area, but if reports are true that they need to offload players from the wage bill and/or sell before they can buy, the slow start to the market makes that look unlikely.

Lingard is the most obvious choice to move on. It is hard to understand what is stopping that from taking place. Newcastle, West Ham, Everton and Spurs along with a smattering of overseas clubs have all been credited with an interest and Lingard himself recently caused controversy by posting a photo of himself wearing the West Ham shirt he graced so well during last season’s loan.

Given that he has only amassed 87 minutes of Premier League football this season – all from the bench and spread over eight games for an average of just under 11 minutes per game – Lingard is clearly not central to plans going forward. Surely even a couple of million is better than nothing for him, in fact, a free transfer is better than nothing as it gets him off the wage bill.

It is unclear whether the sale or release of the 29-year-old will be enough on its own to free up funds to strengthen the midfield or grab one of the exciting young strikers who are being hotly pursued this month. But it would certainly be a step in the right direction.

It also remains to be seen whether Ralf Rangnick fares better than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in moving players in the transfer market or whether he, like his predecessor, is little more than an onlooker in this regard whilst the likes of director of football, John Murtough, director of football negotiations, Matt Judge, new CEO Richard Arnold and majority shareholder Joel Glazer make all the important decisions.

Manchester United News: Rangnick-Martial Saga

Manchester United News: Manchester United has turned into a circus in the last few years. The Red Devils have won a few trophies but the tantrums and beef of the players with managers are always doing the media round.

In the latest saga, it looks like it’s Anthony Martial vs Ralf Rangnick. The Frenchman has been on the sidelines and has openly expressed his desire to leave the club.

The former Monaco star posted on his Instagram Story: “I will never refuse to play a match for Man United.

“I’ve been here for 7 years, and I never disrespected and never will disrespect the club and the Fans.”

Manchester United News: What’s the story?

Manchester United News: Rangnick-Martial Saga.

Anthony Martial hasn’t been picked up by Ralf Rangnick in the squad since his agent talked about a move away. However, things have heated up between the interim manager and the former golden boy winner.

The mercurial winger has denied Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick’s claim through a social media post. The 63-year-old German stated that the 26-year-old turned down the offer to be included in their matchday team for the Premier League draw with Aston Villa.

Rangnick was talking to the press after United’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. The former manager informed the media that Martial declined the opportunity to be in the squad in the non-appearance of injured players Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The winger has expressed his desire to leave the club. The decision has been made known to the hierarchy as well as the manager. Martial thinks it’s the right time to change the club. He has not played since the 3-2 win over Arsenal on December 2 with Sevilla and Juventus are in the race to sign him.

United is looking to offload the winger but they don’t have the desired suitors for him in the market. Sevilla made an offer but United rejected it and the Juventus’s interest is genuine, but a bid hasn’t arrived from the Old Lady.

Manchester United News: What did Ralf have to say?

Rangnick was not a happy man after United blew away a 2-0 lead against Villa within 15 with 13 minutes remaining. The German was asked about the future of Martial and his continued absence.

“Yes, he didn’t want to be in the squad,” Rangnick said. “He would have been in the squad normally, but he didn’t want to and that was the reason why he didn’t travel with us yesterday.”

Martial was touted as the generational talent when he joined United in 2015 from Monaco. He was the most expensive teenager at that point in time. However, after his initial promise, Martial never reached the promised land. The France international will be a United player till 2024 at least as he is under contract.

Fans divided over Ralf Rangnick’s war of words with Anthony Martial – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United fans have been reacting to the war of words that has broken out between manager Ralf Rangnick and forward Anthony Martial.

Martial has been absent from the matchday squad for some time and his agent announced in early December that he wanted to leave the club in January to get more game time.

With no deal looking close, the situation would appear to have escalated and after yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Aston Villa, Rangnick claimed that Martial had refused to join the matchday squad.

The comments sparked a response on Instagram from the Frenchman late last night, who said ‘I will never refuse to play a match for Man United.

‘I’ve been here for seven years and I never disrespected and will never disrespect the club and the fans.’

Rangnick’s public discussion of private matters with players is becoming more regular. At the pre-match press conference he also criticised Marcus Rashford, saying that the player had ‘room for improvement’.

Fans have been divided in their response to the Martial spat. Some believe Rangnick and think he is right to have named and shamed the 26-year-old, while others believe Martial or think that it should have been handled behind closed doors.

Some of those in support of the manager said:

‘So Ole lied about Martial being hurt and now RR lied about Martial refusing to travel? I think I’ll stick on the side of Ole and RR until evidence is presented.’

‘Can’t see Ralf lying, I think Martial jus trying to duck the heat.’

‘[Would] the ‘manager’ of United speak out in front of the press, on camera, and blatantly lie about a player who clearly doesn’t want to be on the bench and is looking for a move? Not buying it, Martial covering his tracks here.’

‘Martial was exposed heavily by Rangnick and now he’s trying to reduce the damage. No way Rangnick would make a statement like that publicly if it wasn’t true.’

‘It’s hard to believe a footballer nowadays … It’s all PR. Martial never looks like he’s 100% committed. I may be wrong, but him and Pogba seem more like mercenaries to me.’

‘Hhhm who should I believe? [A] guy who’s walked around the pitch for two years and made it clear he wants to leave? Or the new manager trying to restore some order to this out-of-hand team?’

‘Call them out one by one, this tendency of keeping them happy and defending them should the end of the day they are all average.’

Some of those who disagreed with the manager’s comments said:

‘You want a player to keep quiet and watch his manager tell the media that he didn’t want to be in the match day squad? Come on, Martial has been at the club for seven years. The manager got it wrong.’

‘Why is Rangnick sabotaging our boy like this? It’s toxic man, not a good look for the player and the club.’

‘Why does he need to explain himself? He wants to leave due to … not being played so why would he refuse to play? It doesn’t make sense.’

‘Ralf cannot even steady the ship he was as appointed for…man doesn’t want to give other players chances.’

‘German nerd is gonna have to hold it.’

‘We’re actually going to have to sack an interim manager…’

Whatever the case, the war of words has certainly upped the ante as far as a January departure for the Frenchman is concerned. Or, as one fan put it, ‘What Marital has done is smart. It’s already well known that he wants to leave, but it’s seemed unlikely that it would happen.

‘Martial knows full well that creating tension like this would increase the chances of him leaving in January.’

Anthony Martial: Ralf Rangnick explains Manchester United star’s absence – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick did not shy away from telling fans why Anthony Martial was not a part of the squad that faced Aston Villa.

The German boss was forced into selecting just eight subs from nine with two goalkeepers, leaving many to wonder where the Frenchman was.

Simon Stone quoted Rangnick as saying: “He didn’t want to be in the squad. That is the reason why he didn’t travel yesterday.”

Martial’s desire to leave was upsetting enough for fans but it seems rather than being frozen out, he’s freezing himself out.

The former AS Monaco man would’ve been made aware that his team needs him but apparently didn’t want to make himself available for the clash.

Jadon Sancho, Jesse Lingard, and Donny van de Beek ended up being the attacking substitutions during the 2-2 draw but it’s obvious Martial would’ve added something different to them all.

Some fans have struggled to understand the reasoning behind what’s going on with the 26-year-old and his future.

It’s said United want clubs who can offer to pay his full salary and a loan fee or else they won’t consider letting him leave.

However, it seems no one is willing to do so and if that’s the case then it makes no sense to freeze him out as he will probably be reintroduced into the side once the window shuts.

It must also be said that clubs may be more willing to make an offer for him if they see him playing, particularly since he’s missed most of the season through injuries.

Nonetheless, it’s pretty damning to see this all happen and the relationship between club and player seems to have completely deteriorated.
