Hakim Ziyech takes International retirement

Chelsea News: Chelsea player Hakim Ziyech has confirmed his retirement from international football. The 28-year old took this harsh decision accusing the Moroccan Football Federation of spreading ‘misinformation’. The situation between Ziyech and the Moroccan Football Federation has been going on for almost a year now.

Hakim Ziyech has accused his national team’s federation of spreading misinformation about his commitment. He last played for Morocco in June 2021 where his team won the match against Burkina Faso. Ziyech played a full 90 minutes in that match.

After the match manager, Vahid Hallihodzic accused the Chelsea star of not taking his national duty seriously. According to Vahid, Ziyech’s behavior was not that of a national team member. Vahid said that as a leader in the team Ziyech should be a positive role model.

He arrived late and after that, he even refused to work. There was no point discussing it afterward, as a coach, the answer is right there to see,” said Vahid about Ziyech and his tantrums.

Hakim Ziyech made it clear that he will not represent his country again. His statement on his social media platform was “Despite giving my all to the team over the past 6 years and supporting them my entire life, the leadership continues to release misinformation about me and my commitment to my country. Their actions have made it impossible for me to continue to be part of the team.”

He wished nothing but the best for the Moroccan team in his statement. Ziyech also said that his focus as a player is at his club at Stamford Bridge. It was not an easy decision for Ziyech to make but he said that the statement was too prevalent to ignore.

Liverpool News: Sadio Mane’s gesture to Mo Salah gets controversial

Liverpool News: Sadio Mane reportedly made a special request to the club about Mohamed Salah. This was prior to Liverpool’s Premier League match against Norwich on Saturday.

After returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with attack partner Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane made a special request to Liverpool.

The two Reds superstars faced off in the competition’s final earlier this month. Mane’s Senegal defeated Salah’s Egypt in Cameroon’s showpiece encounter. Indeed, it was Mane who scored the game-winning penalty–after spurning a spot-kick opportunity in normal time. And this gave the Senegalese team their first-ever triumph.

Salah was denied the chance to take Egypt’s fifth penalty in the shootout after that goal from the former Southampton star. It was heartbreak for the league’s record winners. As well as Salah, who has yet to win a competition in his international career.

Furthermore, the two players will face off once more as they compete for a position in the World Cup playoffs. Senegal will compete against Egypt for a place in this year’s finals in Qatar. They will travel to the North African country on March 22 and hosting the return match six days later in Dakar.

Mane, however, made a particular request to Liverpool. He requested not to mention him or Senegal winning Africa’s most prestigious championship.

Mane is claimed to have made the request out of respect for Salah. Salah is said to be hurting as a result of his country’s near-miss at the tournament. Him comforting Salah shortly after his decisive spot-kick in Yaounde was one of the most memorable images of the final.

Mane and Salah’s relationship

Mane stated that he and Salah did not discuss their ongoing rivalry between their two national teams ahead of the important World Cup qualification double header next month.

He told the Que Golazo YouTube Channel, “Me and Mo Salah don’t even talk about it.We’ll be properly prepared for it and will do everything we can to win because it’s crucial.”

Mane stated that the two had found time to chuckle over an event involving his missed penalty.

Salah was spotted conversing with goalkeeper Gabaski. When Mane jumped in, attempting to sway the perceived mind games in his favour. Mane said that they have not talked about it yet because he knows Salah might still be disappointed.

“When I missed the penalty, he remarked, Why did you come to meet the goalkeeper?” said the player. I saw him chatting, and I’m sure he wasn’t saying much, so I went ‘Mo, I’ll put it in the right side, tell him I’ll put it in the right side.”

“We were discussing it yesterday and joking about it; it was rather amusing.”

Mane won the first round between the two, but Egypt and Salah will get a chance to avenge themselves in March.

Mikel Arteta backs Nicolas Pepe as the Ivory Coast player could be getting more minutes

Arsenal News: Mikel Arteta has said that Nicola Pepe has returned from AFCON as a “different” player. Owing to this, the Spaniard could be giving the Ivory Coast international more chances.

The Gunners have struggled to score goals since the turn of the year. Arsenal has just scored 2 goals in 6 games in all competitions in 2022. To add to this, they have won just one game out of the six due to the goal drought.

Alexandre Lacazette and Edward Nketiah are the only available forwards at Mikel Arteta’s behest. But both the Arsenal strikers have been unimpressive even though they have been given a lot of chances.

Owing to this, it is expected that Mikel Arteta would be turning towards his youngsters to fetch him goals as the Gunners are targeting Champions League football. Hence, we could see Nicolas Pepe being promoted to a more important role in the coming games.

Arsenal News: What did Mikel Arteta say about Nicolas Pepe

Arsenal News: Mikel Arteta backs Nicolas Pepe as the Ivory Coast player could be getting more minutes

The Arsenal manager talked about Nicolas Pepe in the press conference as recorded by the Evening Standard. In this conference, Mikel Arteta exclaimed that the Ivory Coast winger was a “different” player since returning from AFCON.

Mikel Arteta said “Since he has come back from AFCON I think I have seen a different Nico. I don’t know what it is, probably he has realized the importance of the end of the season for him.”

The Arsenal manager also stressed about Pepe’s form at the end of last season, adding that he hoped the winger could replicate it. Nicolas Pepe scored six goals in as many games to end the season positively for the Gunners at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Mikel Arteta added that he hoped the winger knew what his worth was in the squad. The Spaniard continued, saying that Pepe is important to the squad and he will be getting chances in the season.

The Spaniard concluded by saying that “The way Nicolas Pepe has trained was pretty nice. His efficiency in training, his application, and his energy has changed. I don’t know what it is. I think he felt important again.”

Arsenal’s record transfer signing joined the Gunners in August 2019 from Lille. Since then, Nicolas Pepe has scored 26 goals in 101 appearances for the North London side in all competitions.

A positive AFCON tournament for the winger?

Nicolas Pepe was a positive light for the Ivory Coast team in last month’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The winger scored two goals and provided an assist as his nation topped group E.

Ivory Coast faced the formidable Egypt in the round of 16 and the game went to penalties after a 0-0 draw. Even though Nicolas Pepe converted his penalty, the winger couldn’t save his country from elimination as Egypt won 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out.
