Donny van de Beek expected to start: predicted Man United XI vs Aston Villa – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United will be without Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw for their Premier League clash against Aston Villa in Birmingham tomorrow.

The pair are suspended having each accumulated five yellow cards.

United boss Ralf Rangnick admitted after Monday’s FA Cup tie against the same side that he had learned United need to play with three in midfield, praising the impact of Donny van de Beek, who came on as sub in the 70th minute.

Those two facts, plus those that McTominay is suspended and Paul Pogba remains absent, would suggest that the midfield will almost pick itself, with Nemanja Matic, Fred and Van de Beek the only three recognised central midfielders available.

On the other hand, Rangnick could spring a surprise and play Bruno Fernandes in the number eight position that he made his own at Sporting Lisbon, but that’s probably unlikely away from home.

In defence, Diogo Dalot has probably done enough to keep the right back slot ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles will almost certainly deputise for Luke Shaw on the left flank.

At centre back, captain Harry Maguire is fit again and will probably return alongside Raphael Varane, although on current form both Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones might feel that they should start ahead of the England man.

Jones was reportedly neither injured nor dropped but ‘rested’ on Monday night and is in contention for a recall.

Rangnick tends to like a twin striker system so given that he will adopt a 3-man midfield, he could play a single number 10 behind two strikers. If fit, Cristiano Ronaldo will probably return alongside Edi Cavani, with Bruno, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford or Jadon Sancho behind them.

A front three of Ronaldo, Cavani and Fernandes seems unlikely as it lacks pace, so it could mean that Bruno is consigned to the bench again for this tie.

Sancho has been carrying a knock and Rashford was very poor last time out so Greenwood should get the call.

If either Ronaldo or Cavani are absent, we think it’s more likely that Fernandes will stay in the number ten position, with one of the younger, faster players up front.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted starting XI for tomorrow’s game:

Manchester United News: Rangnick-Martial Saga

Manchester United News: Manchester United has turned into a circus in the last few years. The Red Devils have won a few trophies but the tantrums and beef of the players with managers are always doing the media round.

In the latest saga, it looks like it’s Anthony Martial vs Ralf Rangnick. The Frenchman has been on the sidelines and has openly expressed his desire to leave the club.

The former Monaco star posted on his Instagram Story: “I will never refuse to play a match for Man United.

“I’ve been here for 7 years, and I never disrespected and never will disrespect the club and the Fans.”

Manchester United News: What’s the story?

Manchester United News: Rangnick-Martial Saga.

Anthony Martial hasn’t been picked up by Ralf Rangnick in the squad since his agent talked about a move away. However, things have heated up between the interim manager and the former golden boy winner.

The mercurial winger has denied Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick’s claim through a social media post. The 63-year-old German stated that the 26-year-old turned down the offer to be included in their matchday team for the Premier League draw with Aston Villa.

Rangnick was talking to the press after United’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. The former manager informed the media that Martial declined the opportunity to be in the squad in the non-appearance of injured players Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The winger has expressed his desire to leave the club. The decision has been made known to the hierarchy as well as the manager. Martial thinks it’s the right time to change the club. He has not played since the 3-2 win over Arsenal on December 2 with Sevilla and Juventus are in the race to sign him.

United is looking to offload the winger but they don’t have the desired suitors for him in the market. Sevilla made an offer but United rejected it and the Juventus’s interest is genuine, but a bid hasn’t arrived from the Old Lady.

Manchester United News: What did Ralf have to say?

Rangnick was not a happy man after United blew away a 2-0 lead against Villa within 15 with 13 minutes remaining. The German was asked about the future of Martial and his continued absence.

“Yes, he didn’t want to be in the squad,” Rangnick said. “He would have been in the squad normally, but he didn’t want to and that was the reason why he didn’t travel with us yesterday.”

Martial was touted as the generational talent when he joined United in 2015 from Monaco. He was the most expensive teenager at that point in time. However, after his initial promise, Martial never reached the promised land. The France international will be a United player till 2024 at least as he is under contract.

The Villains again take on the Red Devils but this time in the Premier League. They were beaten in the recent FA Cup game. Ralf Rangnick’s side managed to get a hard-fought 1-0 win. Steven Gerrard’s side will be looking to take revenge for the FA Cup exit.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United Live: Match Preview

It is very much public that the players are finding life hard under Ralf Rangnick. However, on the positive side, they have only lost one game under the German. The concern for the United supporters has been the poor performances. They have managed to get results but that is not the solution in the long run.

Like Ragnick, Gerrad also joined the Villans midseason. So far he has done well except against the big teams. But under Aston Villa has managed to give big teams a tough fight. Even in this Premier League fixture, they will be expected to give a tough game to the visitors.

It is likely that Gerrad would want his side to sit back and absorb the pressure. Manchester United has struggled against a low block. Under Ragnick they will try to press hard when they lose the ball. Thus this will give more space to Villains to counterattack. However, if the Red Devils are able to press effectively then Villa will be under pressure.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

The two teams have locked horns 192 times. Manchester United has managed to win 102 times. While Aston Villa has won 50 times. The rest of the 40 games between the two teams have ended in a stalemate.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United Live: Players to Watch out for

Emi BuendíaAston Villa

The Argentinian could constantly drop deep in order to link up the play. This could create a 3 vs 2 situation in the midfield. With United likely to press high up the pitch and with Buendía dropping deep they could be outnumbered in the midfield. The likes of Ings and Watkins could then run in behind the Red Devils defence.

Bruno FernandesManchester United

It was only after the arrival of the Portuguese that the Red Devils pushed for a top-four finish a few seasons ago. Right now they again need him to start firing. He has to again ignite that spark and he is capable of leading Manchester United to the top again.

12th Man Prediction: Aston Villa 1 vs Manchester United 1

This season the Villains at times have played very well but haven’t been able to get the desired result. While United hasn’t been to pick up the rhythm under Rangnick. Thus it is likely to end in a stalemate between the two sides.

(A score of 6 is around average.)

Diogo Dalot 7 – Did OK without there being any fireworks.

Victor Lindelof 6.5 – Didn’t do much wrong.

Raphael Varane 4 – Could have done much better for both goals. Lost his man completely for the first and could have made the interception for the second.

Alex Telles 7 – Excellent first half, not as bright in the second but good enough.

Nemanja Matic 5 – Passed too easily in the second half especially.

Fred 6 – Got the assist but otherwise contributed little defensively or going forward.

Mason Greenwood 5 – Not a good outing for Mason. Scuffed some chances and was greedy.

Bruno Fernandes 8.5 – United’s man-of-the-match. Looked good playing from midfield and United lost control when he was pushed up higher in the second half.

Anthony Elanga 5.5 – Nearly scored with an excellent bit of skill and worked hard, but doesn’t look quite the finished article yet.

Edinson Cavani 7.5 – Quiet efficiency.

Jadon Sancho 5 – Just came on and lost the ball, basically.

Donny van de Beek 6.5 – Had a good effort at the end.

Jesse Lingard 6 – Did not influence the game much.
