Defender Andreas Christensen demands a new contract

Published

Chelsea News: Andreas Christensen is demanding for a new contract in order to continue at Chelsea.

Chelsea defender Christensen made a new demand for a substantial wage package to prolong his contract at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have already lost Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi last summer, leaving problems in the central defence.

However, Christensen’s presence aided Thomas Tuchel in putting together a formidable defensive setup week after week.Last season, the Danish international was instrumental in our UEFA Champions League victory.

Chelsea’s star defender Andreas Christensen

Andreas Christensen, a tall, ball-playing centre-back, joined Chelsea’s Academy as a teenager. He has today progressed to become a valuable member of the senior side. Christensen spent eight years at Brondby before joining Chelsea ahead of a slew of other suitors. He got his first goal in the fourth round at the Valley against Charlton.

Christensen scored his first goal for the club during the 2021/22 Champions League group stage. In a 4-0 home win over Malmo, the Dane shifted his body effectively to volley in a cross from fellow centre-back Thiago Silva and open the scoring early.

He possesses composure on and off the ball, physical strength, aerial ability, and awareness in equal measures. This makes him an all-rounder who has shown himself to be an accomplished full-back and defensive midfielder.

Andreas Christensen is now regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. When called upon, Christensen remains a dependable defender who continues to amaze. With 21 appearances in all competitions this season, the 25-year-old defender’s responsibilities have clearly grown.

Chelsea News: Christensen gathering interest from other clubs as well

The Blues, on the other hand, are still in danger of losing him in the summer if they cannot reach an agreement on a new contract. Christensen is garnering a lot of interest from Bayern Munich.

The German giants are thought to have met with the defender’s entourage last month to express their interest. The Danish star is still considering the options and is searching for a raise. The 25-year-old currently receives a pre-tax weekly wage of €100,000 (£84,000), putting him in the lower echelon of the West London club.

He wants to quadruple his current salary and earn roughly €10 million (£8.4 million) per year.

Is it possible for the Blues to reach an agreement with Andreas Christensen?

We cannot afford to lose two crucial central defenders in the same summer. Especially for free, given the contract standoff between Chelsea and Antonio Rudiger.

As a result, Chelsea should sort out their contracts one by one without any further delay.

Andreas Christensen Backed Out of the Final Last Minute

Chelsa News: It’s ending up to be a disappointing season for Chelsea fans all around the world. The Blues have secured qualification for the Champions League but that’s the end of their glory list.

Chelsea lost to Liverpool in two cup finals in a very similar fashion. Both games ended up going to the penalties and Chelsea ended up losing both times. It looks like Thomas Tuchel will have a lot to do next season.

Chelsea all of sudden finds itself in turmoil. A lot of the veteran players are being linked with moves away from the club. Rudiger and Christensen are both lined up to leave Chelsea for greener pastures.

Christensen is all set for his move to Barcelona. Tuchel was hoping for one last involvement for the Danish international. Although, Christensen bailed out at the very last moment leaving all parties clueless.

Thomas Tuchel prefers to play a back 3 at Chelsea. So naturally, Silva, Rudiger, and Christensen are the first choice players for the manager. However, due to Christensen’s late request, Thomas Tuchel had to fit in Chalobah at the Left Centre Back position.

This was his statement as per the Daily Mail. ‘I don’t know the reason but he is always very nervous. I don’t know what to say.’ ‘We are losing Toni [Rudiger], we’re losing Andreas,’ confirmed Tuchel.

This is not the first time Christensen has suffered from such an illness. In the loss against Arsenal, the 26-year-old requested to come off at halftime as he was apparently having stomach cramps.

He had the same issue in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against West Ham. The player pulled himself from the squad last minute due to health issues. His tendency to not get regular game time will be a cause of concern for Barcelona.

Will Christensen feature in the final two games for the Blues?

Chelsea are in the third position in the League with Tottenham and Arsenal fighting for the fourth spot. However, the Blues aren’t clearly out of the danger zone. If Chelsea botches up these remaining two games there is a possibility of them heading out of the Champions League qualification.

That is why it will be very important for Thomas Tuchel to bring their best team against Leicester and Watford. The Blues will have two games in a spell of 3 days scheduled on the 20th and 22nd of May.

Although there is time for ample rest before the first fixture, one could argue that the final two games being in the span of just 3 days is a bit harsh. Christensen has been an important part of Chelsea’s defense this season.

His absence will surely be a problem for Thomas Tuchel. Although, since the issue is not a major one, we can expect the Danish to play and have a strong finish to the season. It would be good for his move to Barcelona too if he ends up things on a high note at Chelsea.

Opinion: Chelsea to be forced into squad revamp

It looks like that due to a mix of the current ownership takeover situation and a number of contracts running out at the club, Chelsea are being forced into a squad revamp this summer and this is an immediate huge task for the new owners.

A squad revamp is a good thing if you ask me, and it is needed. But the task ahead is so big that it is seemingly near impossible to really do it over one summer, especially as brand-new owners just arriving.

But just look at where we are right now. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are definitely leaving as free agents this summer. Cesar Azpilicueta could still join them by leaving and even if he doesn’t, then he’s only got a year left on his deal. Jorginho and N’Golo Kante only have a year left on their deals and could well be sold just so they don’t go for free.

Then you have an unhappy Romelu Lukaku who could go this summer, and a number of other attackers such as Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, who are bound to also be unhappy with bench roles and could also ask to leave as a result. Marcos Alonso is also rumoured to be off this summer, and others as well.

But how many do Chelsea let leave? Do they really want to keep any players in the squad who do not want to be there moving forward? Because I know I wouldn’t. But selling all of those players and then replacing them in one summer, is going to be near impossible and a massive task. But I also think it needs to happen. Chelsea near to clear some deadwood and start a new era under the new owners.

Whether it needs to happen right away or over a few transfer windows though is up for debate, but whatever they decide to do, the new owners have a mountain to climb as soon as they arrive through the doors.

Current player can save new Chelsea owners some money – Talk Chelsea

None of us truly know how the new Chelsea owners will come in and operate until we see them in action. But one thing is pretty clear, and that is we are highly unlikely to see an approach like Roman Abramovich.

All three final bidders to buy Chelsea will probably be going down the self-sustained route, and this means we will need to be making smart-buys and smart decisions moving forward, and this is great news for the Blues academy and youngsters out on loan.

There are a number of players in the academy and players out on loan who could and probably will come back into this squad in the summer to bulk it up and fill in gaps, and in some circumstances, absolutely improving the squad.

And I truly believe that if Levi Colwill comes back in, he will improve our squad, and he could also save our new owners a bit of cash. He would be the definition of making a ‘smart decision’.

With the defenders we are set to be losing this summer with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all but confirmed, and potentially Cesar Azpilicueta joining them, we are likely to need at least two new defenders.

Colwill can be one of them. He wouldn’t just plug a gap; I genuinely feel like he would stake a claim for a regular spot. Of course, he is inexperienced and needs to prove he can do it in the Premier League and in Chelsea’s senior squad, but he absolutely has the quality and the mentality to make it at Chelsea THIS summer, I have no doubts.

He already plays with so much maturity and has a very high ceiling. I would have no concerns about him starting for us right now. He isn’t just another promising academy youngster, I believe he can reach the levels and follow the path of the likes of Reece James and Mason Mount and have a similar impact.
