Chelsea news: Blackpool give a deadline for recalling Dujon Sterling

According to reports, Blackpool have given Chelsea a deadline until Thursday to decide whether they will recall Dujon Sterling from his loan spell.

Thomas Tuchel has lost his first-choice wing-back duo Ben Chilwell and Reece James due to injuries in recent months. Chilwell is set to be on the sidelines for the rest of the season, while James is unlikely to feature in the squad until March.

The German manager is exploring options both within the squad and in the transfer market to improve the Blues wing-back situation. The Blues have linked with a number of defenders in recent weeks, including Everton’s Lucas Digne.

The Londoners are also exploring the possibility of recalling their loaned out players. Emerson, Ian Maatsen, Baba Rahman and Dujon Sterling have all been linked with an early return to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea news: Blues to intensify their efforts to recall Emerson Palmieri

Thomas Tuchel have prioritized recalling loanee Emerson Palmieri from Lyon to cover for Ben Chilwell for the rest of the season. The Blues have reportedly contacted the French club in recent days to terminate Emerson’s loan. But the Gones have rebuffed their approach and want to keep the Italy international at Groupama Stadium for the rest of the season.

However, it is now reported that the Blues are re-doubling their efforts to bring back Emerson. They are ready to pay compensation to Lyon for the termination of the loan deal.

Meanwhile, Lyon have contacted Paris Saint-Germain for Layvin Kurzawa to replace Emerson if he returns to Stamford Bridge this month. Kurzawa is currently amongst the fringes at PSG, playing just nine minutes so far this season.

What did Thomas Tuchel say about Chelsea January transfer plans?

Speaking to the media ahead of the Blues’ EFL tie against Tottenham, Tuchel gave an update on the Blues’ transfer plans. He said: We adapt daily to the situation but it has not changed for us. No news or updates. The areas are clear where we are looking in the market. There is no need to put any pressure on in public.

What’s next?

The Blues started the new year brilliantly, winning two and drawing one of their three games in all competitions so far. They will look to build on that when they face Tottenham in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals during midweek.

Meanwhile, Blackpool are currently placed second in the 11th EFL Championship table with 33 points from 26 games. They will play Barnsley and Millwall respectively for their next fixtures.
