Aurelien Tchouaméni : Manchester United enter transfer race for AS Monaco midfielder – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouaméni next summer. According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), the Red Devils are one of the ‘most prestigious’ clubs after him.

The report also mentions that the player is admired by plenty of clubs across Europe and that a deal would be difficult to pull off.

Chelsea, Juventus and Real Madrid are among the other clubs interested, with no club yet in advanced talks.

Monaco do not have a shortage of cash and are hence reluctant to sell. The player himself is said to prefer deciding at the end of the season.

The 21 year old has had a stellar last season, featuring 36 times in Ligue 1 and earning a senior call-up for his national side.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, Tchouaméni has the attributes to thrive in a box-to-box role.

Laurie Whitwell recently confirmed that United are looking to sign a midfielder in January.

However, with Paul Pogba yet to sign an extension and Nemanja Matic on the decline, United could be on the lookout for a couple of signings.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick even mentioned in a recent press conference that the squad lacked a ‘certain profile’ of player in midfield.

Tchouaméni could be well suited to play in Rangnick’s preferred 4-2-2-2 alongside either Fred or Scott McTominay. United have been crying out for a specialist number 6, who can shield the defence and control the midfield.

The Frenchman ticks all the boxes and should be at the top of United’s list next summer.

Chelsea transfer news: Blues lead race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni

According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are leading the race to sign AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Speaking to the ‘Here We Go’ podcast, Romano said: “Talking about transfers, Manchester United fans are asking about January. Man United with Solskjaer were planning to sign a new central defensive midfielder for next summer.

“They had Tchouameni on the list but it’s complicated because Chelsea are leading the race for a long time. Also, Declan Rice was among the names that Solskjaer was following. Let’s see with the new manager if they go for something different.”

Chelsea are currently in the transfer market for a new defensive midfielder after suffering injuries to several first-team midfielders this season. N’Golo Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho have all suffered injuries in recent weeks. Manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly shortlisted West Ham United’s Declan Rice and Aurelien Tchoumeni among his prime midfield targets to sign during the upcoming transfer window.

Manchester United are another Premier League club that have shown interest in signing the Frenchman recently. Nevertheless, luring the 21-year old away from the Stade Louis II won’t be easy, as Monaco are reportedly demanding a fee in the region of £42 million for selling him.

What will Aurelian Tchouameni bring to Chelsea?

Known for his tackling, strength and technical awareness, Aurelian plays his best football when deployed as a defensive midfielder. He averaged 2.6 tackles and 2.4 interceptions per game in Ligue 1 this season.

Apart from that, the 21-year old registered a pass completion rate of 87.1% in the French top division this season. He scored two goals and provided three assists in 36 league appearances in the league last term as well.

What’s next?

Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League table with 33 points from 15 league games. They will next go up against FC Zenit in Europe before locking horns with Leeds United for a league game on December 11. Meanwhile, Tchoumeni’s Monaco will go up against SK Sturm Graz for their next Europa League game on December 9.
