Arteta provides update on Xhaka ahead of Liverpool game

Arsenal News: Club manager Mikel Arteta attended a press conference ahead of the game against Liverpool. In the conference, the Spaniard talked about Granit Xhaka and the rest of his Arsenal squad in detail.

Arsenal are currently low on the number of central midfielders available in the squad. Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are currently representing their national sides in the Africa Cup of Nations. Meanwhile, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has joined AS Roma on a loan.

This leaves just Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga as potential first-team central midfielders in the squad. But Xhaka had reportedly contacted Covid before the FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest. Owing to this, he missed the game.

Arsenal started with the young Charlie Patino in central midfield as a result. But the young midfielder was not able to provide much influence as the Gunners crashed out of the tournament after a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

During the press conference, Mikel Arteta was asked about the situation of Granit Xhaka. To this, the Arsenal manager had a positive response that should make the supporters happy.

Mikel Arteta said that there were not a lot of Covid symptoms in Granit Xhaka’s case. Hence he added that the player is doing well at the moment. Though Xhaka is Asymptomatic, he has returned a Covid positive test. Owing to this, he is currently isolated at home.

The Arsenal manager was also asked if Xhaka would play against Liverpool. To this, he replied, “There are certain protocols when the situation starts, when you test negative, whether you have symptoms.”

Mikel Arteta added, “Hopefully [Arsenal’s doctor] Gary O’Driscoll will come to me today with a final decision on whether he is entitled to compete tomorrow or not. And it will be down to the test as well”.

The Spaniard was also asked about how the club keeps the players fit in isolation. To this, Mikel Arteta replied that it is a very tough job. He added that the doctors and sports science department monitor the isolated players closely.

Arteta also said that even though a few players want to keep training, it is not possible. He added that generally, the symptoms need to be understood. And that is how the club proceeds.

Arsenal’s next three fixtures

The Gunners have a busy week ahead of them in terms of fixtures. Mikel Arteta’s side first faces off against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup Semi-finals on Thursday. The second leg of the tie would be played on 20th January.

Between the two Liverpool fixtures, the Gunners will contest the North London derby in the Premier League. Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 earlier in the season. But the Spurs are unbeaten in the Premier League since Antonio Conte took over in November. Hence the Gunners would be hoping that Granit Xhaka would be fit for this tough run of fixtures.

Arsenal stopper Karl Hein officially joins Reading on loan

Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein has joined Reading on loan until the end of the season, it has been announced

Hein, who is yet to play for the Gunners’ first team, is highly-rated by the coaches at the club, but because he is still so young, he is not ready to challenge for a spot in the first-team just yet.

And that meant that Arsenal were looking for potential suitors for Hein, and after weeks of contact, it was Reading that won the race to sign the talented young man on loan

Hein’s arrival comes after the departure of Brazilian Rafael earlier in the month. The 31-year-old had his contract terminated early to allow him to return to his homeland and sign for Cruzeiro.

Hein will now battle Luke Southwood for the no.1 spot at Reading over the final 19 games of the campaign and could make his debut on Saturday against QPR in the Championship.

Reading chief executive Dayong Pang said: “We are delighted to be able to bring Karl [Hein] to Reading.

“At the age of 19 he is an exciting prospect, but most importantly he has already shown himself to be a very capable goalkeeper at full international level and he will add quality to our squad in this crucial period.”

Manager Veljko Paunovic said: “Karl [Hein] is an international goalkeeper with good temperament, obvious ability and the hunger to improve and impress.

“He is a welcome addition to our squad and will increase the strength of our team for our remaining fixtures this season.”

We are massive fans of letting young players go out on loan to get some much needed game time in the first team, so hopefully Hein will get a chance at Reading for the rest of the season and impress enough to potentially get a chance at the Emirates in the future

The Gunners Target Luka Jovic

Arsenal Transfer News: The Gunners are finding it difficult to persuade Dusan Vlahovic to join them in January. Hence they are now looking for a short-term loan move to Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic.

The Gunners have been in pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic since the start of the January transfer window. Owing to this, Arsenal had also placed a bid of €60m. Fiorentina accepted the bid.

But Dusan Vlahovic and his representatives are not very keen on a move to North London. As per the Fiorentina sporting director, Vlahovic’s representatives are not even responding to complete negotiations.

As per reports, Dusan Vlahovic has rather set his heart on a move to Juventus. Owing to this, he could wait until the summer transfer window before joining the Serie A giants.

Could Luka Jovic join Arsenal in January?

Arsenal Transfer News: The Gunners target Luka Jovic as Dusan Vlahovic prefers moving to Juventus

As per The Sun, It looks likely that Arsenal will not be able to sign Dusan Vlahovic in January. Owing to this, the Gunners are now looking at the possibility of signing his national teammate Luka Jovic from Real Madrid.

The report states that Real Madrid has informed Arsenal that they are willing to let Luka Jovic leave on loan. Hence, helping Arsenal to cater to their short-term attacking crisis.

Real Madrid and Arsenal have shared a good relationship in recent years. Mesut Özil, Martin Ødegaard, and Dani Ceballos have made the switch from Madrid to London in the past.

Luka Jovic has not had the best of times at Real Madrid this season. The Serbian who is behind Karim Benzema in the pecking order has made 11 substitute appearances and has just scored 1 goal for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid had signed Luka Jovic from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019. The striker had a stellar two seasons in Germany, scoring 36 goals in 75 appearances for Frankfurt.

The Serbian International has not gotten enough chances for Real Madrid. Hence he was sent out on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt last January as well. He scored 4 goals in 18 appearances during his loan spell.

Any other targets for the Gunners?

Apart from Luka Jovic and Dusan Vlahovic, the Gunners have also been interested in Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker had a good 2020/21 season but has failed to replicate his form in this term.

Mikel Arteta himself said recently “Any player that comes in must be able to take us to the next level. We want much better standards than we already have.” Hence it has to be seen who the Gunners would pick in the January transfer window.

Vlahovic Melo and Turner feature in Arsenal roundup

Arsenal get Vlahovic boost, Arsenal sent message about Turner and Arteta has update after Melo offer in Arsenal roundup…

Arsenal transfer target Matt Turner is as good as any goalkeeper in the Premier League, according to his coach Kevin Hitchcock

Bernd Leno is understandably keen on playing more football after being usurped as Arsenal’s No 1 by Aaron Ramsdale, and that has led to many reports in the media which have suggested that he could leave the club this transfer window

And if the German was to leave, Turner appears to be their top target to replace him, with reports suggesting that the Gunners board have already made an offer to bring him to the Premier League.

And It could be a masterstroke from Mikel Arteta if Hitchcock’s comments are anything to go by, Speaking on a feature produced by NBC Sports Boston, Hitchcock has no doubt Turner has the quality to not only play in the Premier League, but also match the performances of each top goalkeeper in the division.

“Like I said to the people here, he can play Premier League easily,” Hitchcock said.

“I’ve worked with a lot of top Premier League goalkeepers, and he’s up there with the top three I’ve worked with.

“I know at this moment, he is as good as any top Premier League goalkeeper.”

Ramsdale is a brilliant stopper that is easily the number one at the Emirates, so the Gunners do not need to splash alot of cash and bring in somebody that could upset the dynamics at the Emirates

Turner will have alot to prove at the club, but he has been impressing and the Gunners clearly see something in him which will make them believe he is the ideal man to replace Leno if he leaves the club

This will be a massive step up though, and surely a dream move for the man to make if it happens

Mikel Arteta is unsure if Arsenal will be able bring in new signings before the January transfer window closes, with reports they have agreed personal terms with Arthur Melo

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta NEEDS to strengthen his Arsenal squad over the course of the transfer window as a number of injuries and Covid-19 outbreaks have devastated his Gunners squad.

That has led to many reports that he will look to improve the squad and add another defender, midfielder and striker to the attack in order to keep in that chase to get back inside the top sour spots

The Gunners have also held talks with Arthur’s agent and are keen to sign the 25-year-old on loan before the January transfer window closes.

Arthur has already agreed personal terms, according to reports, with Arsenal and wants to make the move to the Premier League for the rest of the season in order to test himself in English football and try to reignite his career.

Juventus, however, have been reluctant to give the deal the green light without bringing in a replacement.

But speaking after the goalless draw with Burnley on Sunday, Arteta indicated the club are no closer to making additions to the squad.

‘In this market things are complicated,’ Arteta told BBC

He added in his post-match press conference: ‘Well we are certainly trying but I don’t know if we are going to be able to do it. Let’s see.

‘It was what we planned but the market is difficult. It’s a lot to manage and we have to make the right decisions with players that we believe are going to help us.’

All these top players linked with a move to the Emirates and so many fans getting excited about possible deals, but again, Arsenal just take too long and end up missing out

Dusan Vlahovic is reportedly ignoring Fiorentina’s calls after Arsenal’s reported £50.1million bid for the player.

Now it is no secret that Mikel Arteta needs to add a new striker to that attack of his as he does not have the squad to get back inside those Champions League places by the end of the seasons

Fans know all the troubles that Arteta is having with his strikers, and that has led to many reports in the media that a deal for Vlahovic is the Gunners number one priority this window.

The big striker is regarded as one of the best in Europe right now and is currently the top scorer in Seria A, with his performances alerting a number of top clubs to his services

Now after reports the Gunners submitted a £50 million offer to get a transfer deal done, Viola’s CEO Joe Barrone has accused Vlahovic and his representatives of refusing contact with him and the club.

Barone told DAZN: “We’ve not received any official bid for Vlahovic as things stand.

“We’re open to discuss and negotiate – but we want Vlahovic and his agent to be clear on the future, as they’re not answering. We need to talk about it.

“[We want] Clarity from the player and his entourage. Fiorentina have a future, a group, a support and a city that must focus on this season

“I would like to talk about Fiorentina because Fiorentina plays and I want to talk about the group that deserves everything that is happening, starting with the club.

“Every day we talk about Vlahovic. On this issue Fiorentina has not received any offers. We are open to everything but we want clarity.”

Vlahovic is a classy player that has already netted an impressive 17 goals, and he would be a seriously brilliant signing for Arsenal if they are able to get a deal done
